Hmmmm OR... I don't think I will ever give that a try... I already sometimes feel sick with TIR... I can't even imagine what would happen if I used OR :-/

Like previous DCS World titles, DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst features a painstakingly reproduced model of the aircraft, including the external model, fully interactive cockpit, mechanical systems, and a Professional Flight Model (PFM).

Thanks for that, chuck. very very  good news  I don't always anderstand subtil english like that one  on Ed site " The flight dynamics of the Bf 109 K-4 are a further develops the Advanced Flight Model principles started with the Su-25 ..."

Have to say, when the Spit comes out I don't think I'm going to be flying anything else on any other sims for quite some time :)

Sure !  same for me  spit IX and VEAO Spit XIV ... on  spring 2015 .... spring 2015  normandy map maybe.   or two weeks more !

I thought you were a pilot? it's just like using your own eyes and neck, for me it is only disorienting playing FPS shooter games, but from a seated position i.e. in a cockpit it is perfect.

I am bongo, but I get easily sick while travelling by car, when not driving, reading books on a bus, etc...

As far as flying goes, I often perform glider aerobatics :-) Never felt sick in an airplane, except once after eating a lunch that was not in good conditions... but that was another matter ...

Ah! And OR presents yet another thrill... How do you interact with the kb?

I don't bother, just have everything essential mapped to the HOTAS (G940 for me) or with DCS use the mouse clickable cockpit, keyboard can get pushed to one side.

for me the OR is the natural way to fly sims as a RL pilot too, I can wear it for hours, TrackIR is very unnatural despite it being on the right track

Any impact on your vision (short term eye strain or long term degradation of visual acuity)? I know it's supposed to focus your eyes at infinity (so hypothetically it's better for your eyes than any monitor), but I'm still fearful.

For me it's really only a problem in FPS games etc., like when you walk with the keyboard commands and then look around with the OR. It feels completely weird and unnatural in that case.

For sims/games where you're fixed in place and not walking around, motion sickness shouldn't be an issue at all. Even in Elite Dangerous, where you can spin around like crazy, i never get any kind of motion sickness when using the OR.

As for eye strain etc., the DK2 is more tiring/exhausting for me than using a monitor. But with better screens, things might be different and maybe it will actually be more comfortable to use the OR than a monitor. But it's still possible to use the OR for hours. I think the longest i had it on was like 2 hours, with a short break.

I might give OR a try one day... I only play flight simulation, and apart from BOS, DCS and CoD only PSX, wich doesn't even require fancy stuff :-)

I have noticed no impact negatively, I have been using it for extended periods playing Elite dangerous, I'm talking 3-4 hour sessions straight and my eyes don't even need to adjust once I take it off.

How is it if one needs to wear glasses?

How is it if one needs to wear glasses?

^ great question. For me it's nessecary to know how it effects eye sight on people with handicaped vision.

My eyes are terrible enough, if OR increases sight issues I end up spending more money for new glasses than an OR per year :(

I'm near-sighted and usually wear glasses, but i'm not wearing the glasses when using the OR. The DK2 comes with two seperate types of lenses (i think the DK1 still had three types). One of those types works for me. I found it a bit uncomfortable to wear my glasses under the OR.

Well it has been one of the first considerations they made while developing the physical hardware..........most geeks are speccy 4 eyes freaks anyway ;) .......I'm joking, but I have read extensively from users who wear glasses who say they will fit under the mask (perhaps Elton john might struggle with some of his elaborate ones), either way they work fine with corrective vision because what comes out of the rift lenses is just as natural as the real world light entering the eyes.

OK, thanks.

You've got 150 XP from me.

Edit: and  + 175 XP for Elton John, LOL.

Thanks Mat, 150 XP also for you.

Can you tell what value those lenses have?

You know, those +2.00 or -1.75 ... stuff

They have open sourced the DK1, so that means the entire device is open to scrutiny at a full technical level including dimensions and characteristics of the lenses etc, I haven't looked at it.....probably won't bother, but the DK2 is still closed.

Now the tricky question, is it possible to adjust both lenses seperately?

I'm havin 1 dioptrin more on my right eye than left. :/

Not a tricky question, as it stands with the DK's the answer is no, will the CV have independent adjustment I don't know but I would say it is something they wold accommodate, on the Oculus forums and on their own FAQ's they often get asked on similar issues, they must be more than aware that a solution is in as much their own interests as the end users.

Shouldn't really make a difference for you i think. I have a 2 dioptrin difference and astigmatism on one eye. I still use the same lense type for both eyes. But you can change the lense for each eye seperately, if that would help. I could imagine that this is more of a problem for far-sighted people.

No idea.

I think for the DK1 it was 0, -3 and -5 for the three different lenses. Not sure which they are using for the DK2.

Well yea. Shouldnt make a big difference for short visioned guys like me. Just asked out of curiousity ;)

Still unsure about the healthy aspect of OR but I'm certainly eager to give it a try one day. Not so if it effects my ability to fly in real live though.

I use it plenty and am a commercial pilot holding a class 1 medical, I think you will be fine.

Yea you have good eyes, it probably wont break anything for you.

My eyes are bad, my eyesight is constantly changing. Maybe it has an influrence on sight changes for people with already terrible eyes.

I see what you mean, I guess time will tell but I'm sure you will be able to try it with no problems.

Once the commercial version comes around, I'm guessing there will be opportunities to try it out at cons, maybe even stores.

I think this is because with TIR you turn your head 10 deg, but the view shifts 45 deg. With OR you have a 1:1 relation to physical and virtual head swiveling.

Yep, got two more modules... but I'm just waiting for that Spit to be released!

Bf.109K-4 will be released on December 3rd!

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2240721&postcount=4

Dear pilots,

Due to some additional work that needs to be completed before we can release the Bf 109 K-4 open beta, Kurfürst will not be available in November as we had planned and hoped. However, it will just be delayed a few days until December 3rd, 2014.

Also, a new DCS World Newsletter will also be released on December 3rd, 2014.

Sorry for the delay,
The Eagle Dynamics Team

Spitfire is next.

We have a bunch of 71st, ATAG, ANON6 and ACG guys that cannot wait to fly the Spittie and try to teach these pesky 109 pilots a lesson. :D

A bit diappointed bout the sounds. The starter clutch and engine idle sound seem to be exactly the same as on the Dora...oh well, there'll be mods for it anyway :)

S!

I wonder why the flare gun is stuffed to it's tube. I bet pilots did not keep it there, unless needed. Otherwise the plane looks very nice. Sounds were a bit underwhelming, but nevertheless getting the plane for myself :)

It looks great to me, but I am so in LOVE with CloD... "DD" presented me one of his girlfriends..., and I have started a relationship ( long I hope... ) with her :-)

Sorry bongo - good friends ?

Of course my brunette DCS World is always a great friday night program...

No they are not same sounds, quite similar yes but not same.

When the engine starts the a/c is shaking but when the 'black men' are cranking on the inertial starter there is no shaking. Should there be as a video of a D-9 being cranked has the a/c moving?

To be clear here, is it released yet? I went into the DCS world and the module manager and saw the 109 available to me (gifted me earlier and code verified) but when I clicked to activate it disappeared and there was no 109 on the menu. I even rebooted the program. Comments?

And Chuck, thanks for the great tutorial video.
