gavagai Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Where's the assurance that it's not going to be RoF all over again, ami7b5? Why aren't all you gold bars asking 777 to explain the Fw 190 roll rate of the LagG-3 seen in the alpha video? The lack of customer interest in that is disturbing to me. Now is the time to ask questions, not later.
ST_ami7b5 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 (edited) I agree, but I do believe BoS will be a great sim. I have returned to RoF after 6 months pause and I love it again. My DCS:P-51 Edit: and those questions... that's your task, gav (the rivet counter). That's why we need you here. Edited September 24, 2013 by ST_ami7b5

Now is the time to ask questions, not later. Pretty sure there is alot of interest in how fast that LaGG rolled, I noticed it straight away. I think most people are waiting to evaluate this for themselves in the Beta, we don't know if the FM was finished (even though they did say three aircraft are virtually finished) earlier in the week. RE ROF I still think its a great sim but there's a few FM/Performance issues with certain aircraft which need sorting out. Pfalz apparently has the same engine as the Alb Va yet the climb rates and performance are very different for one. Sopwith Pup was supposed to be obsolete before the Alb Va was produced yet in the sim its pretty bloody good certainly better than the Alb 5a. I hope they will eventually return to fix those issues.

ST_ami7b5 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 isn't the Alb 5a even worse though? Maybe... but we are bit off-topic already.
Dutch Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Oh man. This really is the thread in which to start yet more knicker twisting about the FMs in Rise of Flight and a Alpha version of a game that hasn't even been released yet. Some people..... Congratulations to RRG games in reaching their initial kickstarter goal. Now we're there I want a 262, so I might up the ante, then I might do it again if the B-17 looks within reach. Gimme. Gimme Now.
tempered Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 (edited) they want that quick nut of some fast action and not a lot of complicated things to have to do to get it. That is why FPSs are so popular." I think this is an unfortunate side effect of the times we live in. Instant communication, 24 hour stores, one click shopping, information overload, and the increasing complexity of our societies in general. One must really love a hobby such as flight sims in order to invest the time and money into it when so many other things are demanding our attention. Congrats to Ilya for the successful kickstarter and for having the devotion to the hobby to even attempt it. Edited September 25, 2013 by tempered

PA-Sniv Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Three days that initial stretch goal has been reached and no official post on KS page or ED forum...
Feathered_IV Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Might stir up a bit of legal action too MP if you're not careful. The Il-2 label is taboo according to Luthier, and you might get him into trouble.
SvAF/F16_Goblin Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Can not see why that would occur. MP made this as a private person without any connection what so ever to either company and also wasn't aware of that before making it AFAIK. Therefore shouldn't stir up any problems. //
Freycinet Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Great post Bearcat and, what can I say, Mysticpuma, it just gets better and better. Exposure in PCPilot should spread the word to a LOT of potential pledgers! 1
Mogster Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I hope so, $150k looks a long way off currently.
DD_bongodriver Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Standby, Luthier is uploading a promo video for DS WWII as I type............
=BKHZ=Furbs Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 *baited breath Though that could be the sweet chili kababs.

Mystics video's are not affiliated or endorsed by the project in any way as far as I can see. Just very good fan video's posted by an individual. It will be very interesting to see 'The Official' update that in preparation! Edited September 26, 2013 by Skoshi_Tiger

Feathered_IV Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Ok. Just hope he doesn't have to "prove" he wasn't tacitly aware that the video was posted to a commercial website.
=BKHZ=Furbs Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 (edited) Heres the update!.... http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/508681281/dcs-wwii-europe-1944/posts/610190 Unfortunately after being up all night making the video, he set the video to "private" so nobody who reads the update actually can watch it. Will someone please wake him up and point this rather important detail, does anyone have his phone number? Edited September 26, 2013 by =BKHZ=Furbs

Gav...I think BOS community is different..OK there are ROF ppl but many who dont play ROF too....and ww2 crowd are MP folks in most parts.....they will bit*h about FMs if there will be some big innacuracies...what we need to see is how the devs will respond to valid requests (ofcourse If there will be need for them).....have faith...If all turns out wrong I sell this one too and will be playing DCS Europe 44.....we will have choice... Skoshi_Tiger Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Does anyone have his phone number? This might call for something a little more drastic!
=BKHZ=Furbs Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 (edited) If a junior member of the team did it, well maybe, for the project lead developer, given the importance of this video to the last few days of the KS, no it really shouldn't happen. It seems to me he is doing too much on his own, he needs someone to help with this side of the product because this isnt his strongest area. Just read the comments in the KS forum and update page, this sort of mistake is hurting Luthier, the KS and the project, which is a pity. Edited September 26, 2013 by =BKHZ=Furbs
6./ZG26_Emil Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Personally I think they should just concentrate on the bare minimum of aircraft and get a good quality map which includes at least the SE Coast of England. That way you can have realistic flights. Then maybe add aircraft as they go. It was quite a turn off to find out about the map they had envisioned. It's not a well thought out project but it doesn't mean it wont succeed, it just needs legs. A map with SE England would give all kind of possible scenarios imho.
=BKHZ=Furbs Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 The video is very good at explaining how detailed the FM is, i have no doubt the FM in DCS44 is going to be very good.
DD_bongodriver Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 A good FM is pretty important in a flight simulator isn't it? DCS itself provides all the tools necessary to make a good useable game out of it, mission and map editor etc, it has a fairly intuitive multiplayer interface.
Tektolnes Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 The guy is working very long hours to make this happen. He's probably travelling and jet lagged on top of everything else. It's easy to make a mistake under those circumstances. Spreading the workload a bit would probably help. Thought it was a good video. Shows us the level of detail that we can expect to see. Also shows how closely they're working with ED on this project e.g. Yo-Yo modelling the Spit IX which I think bodes well overall. 3
Skoshi_Tiger Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 (edited) Well the update was definitely worth the wait. Very good discussion on the development of the flight models, how they will progress to the Spitfire and 190 and it's always good to get to meet the development team. Very good vibe! I'd say it was the best update yet. Edited September 26, 2013 by Skoshi_Tiger
Feathered_IV Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Its nice to see some of the other people taking part in the project too. I wish them every success.
Mac_Messer Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 (edited) Nice vid promoting DCS: P51 Has it not occured to you that the P51 will be one of the flyables in DCS : WWII Europe? @Stig1207 If you ask me, September is a very bad month for me, so it was unfortunate that WWII Europe did not enter the scene a bit earlier. As of now my pledge is the most what I could make of it. The rest of the money I would spend on raising it went to my dentist just today, and it was 9 times the amount of my DCS: WWII Europe pledge. Edited September 26, 2013 by Mac_Messer
Stig Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 From Ilya's latest update: ' We're getting into a very interesting field of psychology here, but basically we're in a situation where inaction gets everybody nothing, while a seemingly altruistic action benefits everyone, including the actor. ' It really is simple. We flightsim fans have everything to gain, and nothing to lose if we back this kickstarter. The opposite is true if we don't. Also, we don't even have to risk anything, No money changes hands before Oct 5, until then you can pledge, change your pledge, and unpledge as you please.
Mysticpuma Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I thought it was funny when on another forum people started worrying that "the Bar is back" in the unofficial footage of the FW-190 in DCS (the metal bar added below the gunsight that blocked part of the view and caused hundreds of pages of posts in the old IL2 forums). Happy to see at the 7minutes and 14 seconds mark in the new video...that can be laid to rest Interesting update, looking forward to seeing how things turn out. Cheers, MP
Tektolnes Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Yes because showing a vid about their philosophy and approach to high fidelity modelling has nothing to do with how they're going to model the upcoming planes.
Dutch Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Well, both the DCS P-51 and the DCS Dora will be in the sim, so there's a video of them..............
Feathered_IV Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 It would be nice to hear something of the aircraft campaigns before the ks period is through. Ilya said he'd amassed some hundreds of pages of notes on campaign design. It would be interesting to learn of some of his goals in that direction.
