LLv34_Flanker Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 S! Hopefully those men are let to rest in peace. And why always nazi this and that? That submarine belonged to Kriegsmarine, not the NSDAP party. Or does it just sound so much more media sexy to mention nazi-word? 1
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Or does it just sound so much more media sexy to mention nazi-word? We are talking about murica media after all. It's always easier to say they've sunk a nazi U-boot with bad german nazis on board than sinking a piece of a desperate war effort kiling family man and normal militians.
[TWB]80hd Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 We are talking about murica media after all. It's always easier to say they've sunk a nazi U-boot with bad german nazis on board than sinking a piece of a desperate war effort kiling family man and normal militians. For the record, I am a citizen of the United States, and I wholeheartedly agree with you. It might be expedient to demonize ones foes during a conflict, but it's been over half a century since the cessation of hostilities, not to mention a fairly long-lasting friendship between our two modern nations. Our media, and the people running it, are shamefully sensationalistic. Setting aside all the politics, the boys who went to fight because they were told to... regardless of what they knew and understood, their country called them and they responded... right or wrong, they have my respect. Regardless of nationality. I hope all those that died have found peace. 1
Cybermat47 Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 (edited) What are you guys talking about? The article only refers to the sailors aboard U-576 as Germans, not Nazis. The word Nazi is only used once, and that's just in a video link, not the article itself. Here's a quote from the article: The story of U-576 is the more tragic of the two wrecks. U-576 sonar image from bottom of Atlantic off North Carolina coast Bluefields did not sustain any casualties during the sinking, but all 45 crew of the U-boat were lost. They're treating the crew of U-576 with respect. I get that most of the time the media is sensationalist, but this time they're not doing that. Edited October 24, 2014 by Cybermat47 1
johncage Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 (edited) yep, another case of people finding issue where there are not. i wonder what it says about the accuser...obsession with nazism much? Edited October 25, 2014 by johncage
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 I've commented on Flanker's post, not the article per se. Indeed it is fairly written. There are plenty of bad examples of such media though which always repeat this bad picture over and over again. Anyway the article was nice. May U576 rest in piece.

Agreed, a lot of media sources love sensationalizing stuff. It's annoying at best.
LLv34_Flanker Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 (edited) S! Text was OK but in the video, oh boy. @johncage. Implying I am a nazi? Because I dislike the word used on every single piece of history telling about WW2, generalizing that every single German was a hardcore nazi? Have you ever read how these young men felt and were treated after the war? How they were constantly reminded of nazi this and nazi that, spitted on walking in the streets? That their kids were raised in school post-WW2 to hate their parents who had fought in WW2 on the "wrong" side? How a big rift it caused between them and that the disrespect goes on even today? Have you seen how a veteran cries when people stand up when he enters the room, wondering why people treat him so well? I have. Old men do politics, young men suffer from the consequences. No matter what ideology. So please, before implying someone is a nazi, get your facts up to date and do some reading and talking with real people who were there.
