VeryOldMan Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Hello. I am amazed how i have not seen anyone else comment that they wanted a Mig-3 in game. I always loved that bird, is there a reason its not popular here? Would love to see it , even as a buy with money plane as soon as possible
csThor Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Well, the MiG-3 is essentially a 1941 plane. It was phased out in early 1942 because the production capacity for its AM-35 engine were needed for the AM-38 of the Il-2. On top of that the Yak-1 was found to have been more suited to the environment on the front and to be easier to fly. Hence, by the time of Stalingrad, the MiG-3 was already a rare bird. 5
leitmotiv Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 yes people love it, would be handy for high altitude but dosent fit Stalingrad
Finkeren Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) Same here. Mig-3 is a quite interesting (and amazingly beautiful) aircraft. But Stalingrad is simply not the right setting for it. Let's have Leningrad or the battle of Moscow next, and the Mig-3 will be high on my wish-list. Edited September 2, 2013 by Finkeren
6./ZG26_Emil Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Very good looking aircraft, I'd buy it
VeryOldMan Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 I woudl buy uit, then grind until I could steal an AM-38 from one of the il2 at my base and make a field mod of pure awesome!

Finkeren Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) Sounds like a plan! Is that a promise? I'd love, love, love to be able to fly a Mig-3. Regardless of iits combat performance, it's simply so stunningly beautiful. I think I once read, that after the Mig had been pulled off the production lines, they started tinkering with the left-over airframes and accidentally invented sex. Pupo Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 more than the mig3 (wich is a nice plane, but who porly fits the tasks of the russian front), i miss the I16 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ah8PtBnHO8&feature=share&list=PLzWMWffvqYDWzaxArjkyF14HoIoT_ek5m

1./KG4_Blackwolf Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I love the MIG-3 and it would be my ride of choice in the battle of Moscow.
BeastyBaiter Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I must say the MiG-3 is one of the nicest looking planes of WW2. I'd love to have it.
Original_Uwe Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Agreed. Just a beautiful bird. Bit, if like to see I16, P40 and P39 first.
15[Span.]/JG51Costa Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Sounds like a plan! Plz, plz, plz.
Volkoff Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) Hello. I am amazed how i have not seen anyone else comment that they wanted a Mig-3 in game. I always loved that bird, is there a reason its not popular here? Would love to see it , even as a buy with money plane as soon as possible As for VVS planes, I would really like to see the Yak-1b, I-153, I-16, and P-40 as the next VVS planes for the Battle of Stalingrad map. I would like to see the Mig-3 used on another add-on map. I find Zak's words very encouraging. MJ Edited September 2, 2013 by =69.GIAP=MIKHA
VeryOldMan Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 Well my personal order of preference would be P-39 Mig-3 P40 Yak1b ( altough the yak we will get has the 1b engine... so maybe they will skip it) I never liked the "circus looking planes" like the I-16
Heywooood Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 I-16 in the circus?.... close this book forever and dont open anymore! I-16 is pure fighter from the early days and pure Russia - take the biggest engine you have, build around it the smallest fighter plane, attach as many MG's as will fit on it - and go fly it in battle open cockpit, round engine, hand cranked retractable LG, whats not to love circus my ass

Heywooood Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 you dont find the I-16 dead sexy?!!! what is WRONG with you, very old guy? she is the original brick sh*thouse of a pit wulfie - dammit now my blood is boiling lol - dont diss my girl buddy, she'll kick yer ass
OBT-Psycho Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 damned dude, for someone who claims hating circus jibberish plane, you've got some nice avatar pic! all those curves and flashy colors... you're sure everything go round up there? BTW both planes would make me happy, but Mig-3 would be sexy

I prefer lean, but with generous curves ones Capable of gettign me to very high altitudes

Volkoff Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 (edited) you dont find the I-16 dead sexy?!!! I think that the I-16 has tremendous appeal, as it is adorable looking and is the decided underdog. The open pit will make it a very nice transition ride for guys and gals used to the open air pits in Rise of Flight, I should think. While I am convinced that the VVS still needs an easy to fly and highly capable dogfghter with a bubble canopy, like the Yak-1b, especially for lone wolf Free Hunter players, I feel just as strongly that the VVS needs a highly agile, yet highly challenging ride for highly experienced flight simmers. I think that the 1-16 fits that role perfectly. If I had it my way, the 1-16 would be a high priority VVS (non-lend lease) IL2 BOS add-on. MJ Edited September 3, 2013 by =69.GIAP=MIKHA
Heywooood Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 (edited) couldnt have said it better meself mate Edited September 3, 2013 by Heywooood
Zmaj76 Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 (edited) Airwar over the eastern front (Stalingrad as a perfect example) was generally at lower altitudes where MIg3 was anyways inferior to the 109....also the design wasnt "state of art" with its additional oil tank behind engine and AFAIk it could burn easily if got hit in "vulnerable spots"... Vig Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 close this book forever and dont open anymore! ROFL! I had forgotten that classic!!!
Heywooood Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 "where did you read Spitfire made from a wood??" was the first part of the quote...I lol'd for days classic Olegism 1
VeryOldMan Posted September 4, 2013 Author Posted September 4, 2013 I simply cannot stand planes with open cockpit. So that I cannot play ROF for more than 5 min without repulsion
II./JG27_Rich Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 (edited) I have an IL-2 2001 story about the Mig 3. I first started on the demo in August 2001. When September came along I ran into this German who's handle was Josh. All of a sudden I hear this Santa Claus sounding voice on Roger Wilco in slow broken English saying he needs help learning to fly. After holding back the laughing the best I can I say ok and we start the teaching and leaning. After two months of day in day out flying he's on my tail all the time in this Mig 3 Svak? It seems to always be the way. They think you are a god then they are laughing at you as you crash into the ground in flames full of their bullets. Anyway we became very good friends Edited September 6, 2013 by II./JG27Richie
wtornado Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 If it flew anything like the MiG-3 in IL-2 Forgotten Battles onward no wonder the response is not to enthusiastic. That was my favorite snap, role, super stall, you a dead at 1500m plane.

That was my favorite snap, role, super stall, you a dead at 1500m plane. Fans of the Mig -3 might want to pitch the benefits of a Battle of Moscow map. Early vvs plane fans will like to be able to sim fly planes like the I-16, I-153, and Mig-3, while fans of the Axis rides may like the Battle of Moscow map because Luftwaffe fans can fly against planes like the 1-16, I-153, and Mig-3. I think that the Battle of Moscow map will be a great map and challenging map for the VVS players, because it will put the VVS at a tremendous disadvantage. I wonder if the community will want to follow the Stalingrad map with another map that places the VVS at a disadvantage or if the community will first want a map where the VVS rides are highly competitive with the Luftwaffe rides, such as the Battle of Kuban? I can see great reasons for going either way, personally. I certainly want both maps, because I like the planes that will likely be featured on both maps and because each map presents a significantly different gameplay experience for both the VVS and Luftwaffe. Bf-110 Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Early war soviet planes are cool! The I-16,I-153,I-15bis,SB-2 and DB-2. Didn't knew MiG-3 career was so brief.Nice plane, tho.
Finkeren Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 A little Off-Topic Possible planes that join the Battle over Stalingrad ----> Take a closer look at this side http://www.fspilotshop.com/wwii-expansions-stalingrad-1942-1943-p-1930.html - Messerschmitt Bf-109-G2 / G6 - Focke Wulf Fw-190A-4 - Heinkel He-111 H2 / H6 - Junkers Ju-87D-3 / 5 - Junkers Ju-88A-4 - Messerschmitt Bf-110 G2 - I.A.R. 80 - I.A.R. 81c - Lavochkin LaGG-3 - Lavochkin La-5/F - Mikoyan Gurevich MiG-3 AM-38 - Yakovlev Yak-1b, 7b, 9, 9T - Hawker Hurricane Mk II - IIyushin IL-2 / M /Type 3 - Polikarpov I-16 Type 24 - Pe-2 - Pe-3bis - I-153P That list hits pretty far off the mark in some places. I mean: Bf 109 G6 but no F4? No single seater or converted Il-2, but we get the swept wing 1944 type? The Yak 9T when the NS 37 gun only started front line trials at the end of the battle, on the Il-2? Etc etc etc. Besides, this is not really a source, it's just a plane set for an old IL2 campaign, that some guy came up with.

But for this campaign where you should paid for it 26 Dollar. I was sure if I need to pay for something that the planes where there. But after looking closer some planes are not correct. Found some better information that I would like to share but for this time I made my own thread what is a better idea to share this information what I found and I hope that this time is more correct than this usermade campaign what I don't known before. I just removed my post to keep the thread clean and to start my own thread.
csThor Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 To paraphrase Oleg Maddox: "Throw away that list and never look at it again." It's utterly unhistorical and contains aircraft that just weren't there. 1
