indiaciki Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Does it make sense having prop pitch on manual during non-combat flights?
Pringliano Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Some say it's easier for taxiing, both in the Bf109 and the Fw190. Don't know if it's "historically" accurate though...
LLv34_Flanker Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 (edited) S! In most cases the manual pitch was used IF the automated system broke or pilot wanted a certain RPM/manifold pressure combination, for example economic cruse settings etc. Otherwise it was kept on auto AFAIK. indiaciki Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 (edited) That was my point. Slow cruise at about 300km/h. Did the E have manual prop pitch? I don't remember. Edited October 23, 2014 by indiaciki
LLv34_Flanker Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 S! Bf109E-3 and earlier did have manual prop pitch. The automated system came with Bf109E-4, but many if not all E-3's were converted to E-4 standards. So basically since E-4 and modified E-3's the 109 had automated prop pitch.
