Hey guys

I'm currently using a Logitech 3D pro in War Thunder, and I want to upgrade to a HOTAS for IL2 and DCS. My issue is I'm paralyzed so I'm unable to use pedals. So I have a few questions

As far as I'm aware my only option for a HOTAS with a twist stick is the Saitek X55. I've read about so many people having troubles with theirs, I would like to avoid buying one.

Has any one used a Warthog, or CH products without pedals, maybe using a hat or the mouse nub for rudder control?

Or have experience using a CH throttle and another twist stick such as the 1600m?

I tried to order a CH Fighter stick and Throttle, but I'm unable to find anyone with stock in Australia. Anyone know why that might be?

Another option is trying to find a Saitek X65F, but the only one I can find costs $530, which is $50 more then the Warthog and is really stretching the budget.

Cheers

You really need rudder control of some sort to fly well, so I don't think using buttons or a hat switch would cut it.

I have an X55, and my rudder pot is sticky, but I didn't bother replacing it as I have pedals... however.... the action on the x55 rudder is one of the favorites I've tried. So despite misgivings, I'd recommend the x55, and on the off chance you get a dud one, send it back to the shop or saitek for a replacement. (Also run it through a powered hub as low power causes problems with them.) It's a great hotas, and for half the price of a warthog I think worthwhile.

More food for thought is a second hand MS sidewinder2 FFB stick , this has a twist stick rudder, coupled with a CH Quadrant Throttle is my fav for prop sims and I also own a Warthog. The downside is not so many buttons, a button box may help there, or if the keyboard is in reach not an issue, I am lazy and do not want to move my racing pedals out of my rig so am experimenting with going back to the twist stick for rudders, I can take off alright

You could also map the rudder to a rotary on the throttle - I did this in DCS for my helos before I got pedals because I wasn´t very happy with using the twist axis.

Needed some time to get used to but I guess it could work pretty good for planes as well.

You can use CH PRO Throttle mini-stick at left hand thumb as rudder, this one control axis and has return to center spring, fits perfectly for rudder control.

Or you can use this throttle together with other brand standalone stick with twist rudder, example Tm T.16000M or MS FF2, etc.

HOTAS with twist rudder options are:

Saitek X-55

Saitek X-52 PRO

Saitek X-52

HAT for control rudder dont work well in this game because are not provide a key for center rudder (Less keys is better rule).

Like Sokol1 said, the CH Pro Throttle has a mini-stick that works perfect to control rudder pedals.

While not..the level of other sets here, the Thrustmaster Flight X Hotas has a twist stick, and an optional rudder control on the throttle (a spring-centered additional axis).  It's a little short on buttons and additional hat-switches, but if you pair it with a button box, it's a nice bit of kit for not a lot of change.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to order a CH throttle and try it out with my logitech 3D pro to see if I can use it instead of a twist stick. Once I've had a play I'll know whether to get a twist or non twist stick.

I would stick with the MSFFB2 combination....
