Advanced Graphic Options

I would like to ask to the devs, what happened to the advanced graphic options that we had in the very early version of the game?

As I remember, it was decided by the dev team to remove the advanced graphic options to streamline testing and to prevent users to tinker with graphical settings that were still under development. Now that BOS was finally released I am surprised that customizable graphic options are not in the game. This is a flight simulator after all; it doesn't make any sense that the user cannot adjust graphics individually, and has to settle with the default presets. For example, what if I want to enable high resolution textures but not shadows and SSO to keep the FPS good? As far as I am aware, it is not possible right now. It also does not make sense that all this was removed because of some users tinkering with the graphics, breaking the game in the process, and then blaming it to poor coding in the forums. What about the hundreds of users that although are not "IT" (as mentioned by the devs), still know what they are doing?

I really hope that the advanced graphical settings make a comeback soon, most computer games have this functionality, and testing should be all over by now. Until then I will certainly playing some other WW2 flight simulator that offers such basic functionality. Not being able to fully adjust the graphics really hinders the experience to me, not every video card is good at rendering SSO and other things. It doesn’t make sense that I have to play at minimum graphics with ugly textures for that.

Thanks and I await some type of response on the current plans regarding graphic settings.

RoF has a rock solid GUI for graphics that is very easy to use. BoS had a good selection as well, but taken away. It hurts to see the otherwise very nice graphics being dragged down to almost poor because of the post processing effects in use. I prefer a clean and crisp vision, not this mess that makes even spotting a plane more difficult becuase the effects mess up the colors and act as "smeary film" between me and the graphics.

Agreed - at the very minimum there needs to be an option to remove SSAO while playing at ultra. It does absolutely nothing for the game and just makes things look unclear with smearing grainy bands in the pit and the lowlight skies can look godawful. SSAO is always an optional setting in every single PC game out there. Not having this option in BOS is an unfathomable decision.

It really is utterly amazing they'd think that having visual presets and no customization was a good idea.

For screenshots some of the post processing thingies might be good, but for gameplay it is horrible. Yesterday while testing different stuff online numerous times spotting of the plane was not hard because of the LOD or dot size, but because of the darned "smear" you have everywhere. Caused by the post processing effects.

Please give us the advanced settings back!!!! I can´t play the game with the current presets!!!!! I been waiting and hoping all this months that by release we will have advanced settings back and i can´t see a damn reason for not having this option at this stage

+1. More graphics options are needed. Although I run on Ultra without problems, there are people with lower settings choping down their performance with useless features sometimes.

More power to the user with all fairness for MP. ofc.

Well, actually, it seems an obvious thing that no one game should be released without a strong and detailled graphics option management provided (and sounds also by the way).

Please devs, do something quickly on that.

Do we at least know what each of those presets consist of?Is SSAO in all of them? Haven't tried low settings yet but balanced, high and ultra makes no difference whatsoever for me.And cockpit shadows are lowres in all settings, even ultra.

SSAO is present in balanced, high, and ultra, with the number of samples increasing with each preset. In these presets the visibility range is also set to 1.0

SSAO isn't present in low, but the visibility range is set to 0.5 last time I checked, so even though I would prefer to run at low because of no SSAO (and although I can run it at ultra), I run at balanced because it has the lowest amount of SSAO with max visibility range.

I was wondering about how post effects such as SSAO affected visibility because the cockpit glass always looks so murky/dirty, so I took some screenshots at the same moment within a track to compare the difference between ultra and low. I believe the time in-game was 12:00pm. These shots are just two screenshots ccropped then overlayed at the same point with parts of one screenshot deleted. I would have like to have done a cockpit comparison, but the instrument panel on low runs on much lower textures so it's hard to compare it properly. However there is a clear difference in how low vs ultra looks outside. The problems with SSAO and the instrument panel are much easier to see when it is in motion so I would need a video to illustrate that.

SSAO may not be the only post processing that contributes to this, as I *think* HDR is turned on too. I hated HDR in RoF and always turned it off.

Thanks a lot Requiem :salute: Seems like balanced is way to go for me for now (and maybe for ever  )

Call Kegetys and soon we have a working solution ;) Requiem is mostlikely right about HDR, tested in DCS and the effect of HDR is pretty much similar as seen in BOS, but in a less "crapifying" degree. Seeing stuff like that just peeves me off and exactly proves the point that devs of games are way too attracted to everything shiny :P

I will sacrifice a sheep to old gods if it will help to get advanced graphic options back

One more vote for getting back the advanced options. Maybe the devs have already realized that removing them doesn't help one bit, but makes their customers unhappy.
