AA_Engadin Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 (edited) Hi all It's my pleasure to introduce you a more peaceful and less sized helicopter cousin of this guy at present, the Focke Wulf Fw Triebfugel This is not at all the first of its kind [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tip_jet ] but it is one of the tiniest and the most up to date of them all: From the tipjetusa website: "The Dragonfly is a high-tech green helicopter based on a H202 Tip jet propulsion system. This technology eliminates the weight and maintenance of engine/gear box, pedals, hydraulics, and does not require a tail rotor. A tail rotor is available to enhance hover maneuverability." Astonishing is the take-off smoke ring on the blades end. And, maybe I am wrong, but it looks like it's only one of the two tips smoking (and hence the pulsating noise)? But, if so, where are the tearing-everything-apart vibrations expected? This is far from being a silent helicopter, but can you even imagine the tremendous amount of noise of his german wartime cousin at take off, handling the weight of a plane that size? I simply can't. Enjoy! AA_Engadin Edited October 22, 2014 by AA_Engadin 1
MiG21bisFishbedL Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 I'd heard about that in 2011 at AirVenture, looked cool.
