dburne Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 What did they do skip the 800 series numbers, or did I miss something?
TheBlackPenguin Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 (edited) What did they do skip the 800 series numbers, or did I miss something? Yes, they jumped over it. Apparently that number was used for another mobile type graphics chip and they wanted to avoid confusion. Good luck with getting a 970, I have an MSI 970 on backorder with Amazon as they seem to have been sold out practically everywhere. Its about $350. MSI http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NN0GEXQ/ref=ox_ya_os_product_refresh_T1 Gigabyte G1, normally $10 more than the MSI. Great reviews for both. http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-Graphics-GV-N970G1-GAMING-4GD/dp/B00NH5T1MS/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1414012486&sr=1-1&keywords=Gigabyte+970+G1 Both come standard with 4GB of VRAM, which is nice. Upgrading from a GTX560, next up I need a new monitor and next year an OR. Edited October 22, 2014 by TheBlackPenguin
dburne Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Ah ok then, thanks - was concerned I somehow missed a whole generation there lol.
[TWB]80hd Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 GTX 970 unless you are flush with cash and want to brag that you have marginally better 980. Definitely put an order in ASAP though, like El Penguin Negro said, they are going like hotcakes as soon as anyone gets stock.

[TWB]80hd Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Not to beat this thread to death, but in case anyone else is in the market, check out this link: It's focused on gaming laptops, but if you bounce to about 3:25 you'll start seeing the benchmarks... they include the GTX 980 vs the GTX 970... Real world numbers for ya.
Gambit21 Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 GTX 970 I have the MSI version sitting here, still have to install it.
