Unlock Modifications is a boring process to be honest...

Yup... in WT they get away with the unlocks because the game is free: they want the not-so-patient players to spend cash for unlocks. But you can also get the 109 and the Bombrack free of charge.
in BoS the player spends big time cash (60-100$) and then finds himself with a "neutered" 109 with no bombrack.

Free+the more you play the more you get
vs
Expensive+the more you play the more you get

or even VERY EXPENSIVE + the more you play the more you get

agree... its not the same thing at all!

I wonder why RoF wasn't copied in everything... that game is true winner in my eyes.

RoF did indeed a great job. I am still playing the career mode and love it. Love it, only downside is, it does not have coop.

As for the current BoS campaign, I get into it and the progress is relatively fast on hardcore. I would hope they add a peer to peer coop for the campaign. I really do like the different missions and it would be great to play these with a few friends.

RoF does indeed have a coop mode.  I've used it plenty. Hoping in the not too distant future we'll get it in BoS............along with a mission editor.

Yeah I thought the syn server had a coop mission running on ROF just the other week. I thought the ROF buy as you go was a great way to do it. Get the base game free and only buy what you want. Some may throw their hands up and say its a pay to win but its not. I have one member of my squad that has only a few A/C on both sides and he is scoring kills both in the air and ground as good as I am with all the store bought goodies( and I have them all, well not the campaigns).

Ah, in all fairness though:

CloD has nothing on BoS when it comes to the actual feel of flying though. Like, CloD almost always feels clunky and counter-intuitive in so many ways that are not related to the technology in the actual planes.

BoS on the other hand is incredibly... "smooth" is the best word that comes to mind.

(mind, I said nothing about realism, clickable cockpits or graphical fidelity)

I disagree. CoD feels much better to me, but feeling is subjective.

Jason you want us to stick to product comments? Alright, your offline campaign SUCKS. For reasons previously discussed at length.

Also unlocks SUCK.

You know we can debate unlocks till we are blue in the face. They are here and they will stay. I just wish the developers would be honest and just tell us why. The F2P version needs them maybe? The damage being done by ignoring the problem means that whenever you release the next "Whatever" people are going to take two steps back. 1C are big and strong they can afford to take the credibility knock. But not all parties involved in the project can. I would far rather read an honest statement indicating why than just blanket silence on the subject.

Ah. I was referring to the career not having coop :).

Maybe because 1C wasn't involved in RoF and is involved in BoS.

I love RoF too.

Play nice Luke and USAF or we'll put you both on permanent ignore. People are allowed to praise the product or criticize it in a polite and fair manner, not each other which is what you guys are doing.

Everyone else, let others break the rules on their own accord if they wants even if it annoys you. Just talk about the product and not each other.

Jason

i was looking in history for some producer/developer comments,

really is this everything what you can say for this thread? very sad!

becouse i did overview of you homepage, and still there is no visible information about locked items and all mentioned early in this thread.

you still promote game as flight-sim and your screens presents white planes, i bought them but i cant use them!

also "Classic Multiplayer gameplay" term is not what you selling now. i dont know any other classic multiplaler where you have to grind someting in singleplayer (even on autopilot over and over same scenarios for all planes without any fun)

false adversting is not legal in EU, you should respect that!

it is time to make it clear dont you think? in sense of fair busines...

or finaly implement some solution for MP!

This sounds kind of creepy, like those guys that think 'NO' means 'YES'.

I really would like to v*mit. 4 out of 5 times I get shot into the engine by the sniper gunner killing my engine on the first shot. This makes the already boring grinding ultra-boring.

Personally I prefer to use the 1945 skin to fly around in 1942's Stalingrad. But that one comes in a close second.

Also I think grinding on some planes is more difficult than in others. I have finished the 190 rather quickly (also because of its huge ammo quantity and sturdiness) while I struggle to get points with the yak and the La5 because the yak is more fragile and both have rather limited ammo while the opposing bombers are really tough.

10 hours and all unlocks that I want for my birds (F4, G2 and FW) are available to me.  Didn't bother with the 151/15 on the F4 as I have the 151/20 already.

I might do the IL2 stuff but as I'm almost exclusively LW I might not bother.  Actually no I probably will for server balancing reasons - ground attack is a giggle regardless of side.

Err, it has influence in the way that it's a constant reminder to whatever few devs give a crap about the community that there's a sizeable element that is absolutely not happy with the current design.

Forums are funny like that.

indeed and becouse sheeps only making noise here and finaly grinding everything instead founding a unity where simply nobody will fly SinglePlayer just becouse of MP unlock

or better totaly refuse to play BOS (for some week or month) to demonstrate that we are customers, we filling their pockets with MONEY and that we didnt purchased Free2Play grinding game. they are nothing without us, players = customers

we bought flight-sim with CLASSIC multiplayer and white skinned planes as descriebed on homepage!

maybe their poor login stats and empty online servers could force them to think about it twice

If ou fly more than one or two planes I understand it is yes absolutly!

That sounds like a great idea.  Stop flying.  Stop posting on the forum.  Stop all contact with the game.  I promise that we'll be right behind you...

What a stellar attitude. Frankly, all sides need to grow up. Everyone from developer to end-user. I've honestly not seen this kind of arrogance and unwarranted narcissism in a very long time.

What?  If you're so unhappy about unlockables that you don't want to play the game, then don't play the game.  Find something else to do with your time.

Maybe, perhaps, I enjoyed the game itself and the unlockables have put a severe damper on that?

terribly boring, I agree.

to me, the whole single palyer experience is frustrating. I get downed like hell, first time in my life. I always had problems with BOS planes and FM, no control at all, no aim, the plane is like a crazy beast in my hand, yaws and bounces everywhere, so my combat effectiveness is silly to say the least. Plus, enemy planes hit me at FIRST shot, always

Not my game, definitely, but still proud and happy to be among the founders.

It's a Love/Hate thing, nothing seems to work between me and BoS, even the sweetFX. tried dozens of times, followed the infos step-by-step, nothing. I guess this is one of the reasons why I started hating it hehehe.

I guess I will never get the unlocks until some cheat or trainer comes out

meanwhile I do have much fun creating my situations with the simple editor: short, violent dogfights where sometimes I win and feel happy.

No time/wish to learn everything and use this game at 100% of its potential, but it's ok.

Then you have a decision to make, because they're obviously not getting rid of unlockables in the near future.

Posted

I do not like the unlock system but it is not my main point of concern about the SP campaign, so I do not care that much if they stay.

What does concern me is the way xp points translate into player levels which determines the monster level (aka mission difficulty).

Flak aggressiveness, enemy AI etc. There is nothing wrong with this as such, the problem is that in BoS it seems to be a once only irreversible process unlinked to whatever plane you fly and where you are in the campaign.

I am currently on about level 7.5 in the middle of Air Bridge Chapter. I have unlocked all of F-4 G-2 and Lagg3.

Suppose I want to RP a new career starting from the beginning with a certain number of missions per day, with the goal being to see how far I can get. As I understand it, whatever plane I choose, the monster level will be 7.5.

Since people who have reached level 10 report that the experience reaches kamikaze levels of danger, it looks as though the more you play the campaign the less replayability it has. Like starting a new character in an RPG and being plunged straight into the Boss battle. This is truly incompetent design for a SP campaign.

If you look at any other game with an SP campaign (and I have played a lot) the gamer can always start at the beginning with a new avatar/profile/party. Why not allow the player to create his own profiles, at least one per plane type, and give the ability to reset them to zero?

I made my decision with my wallet not to buy this game!  I've followed BoS since it was announced and eagerly awaitied the Friday Dev diaries.  The day you announced unlockables i was skeptical but still soldiered on.  Then when I found out about single player griding for the paint schemes and weapons I lost interest.  Coming back for the games release and getting radio silence from the entire dev team on the matter is an even bigger turn off and has  assured me I made the right decision!

I have made a mistake (again) to pre-order, hoping for a new IL-2 sim (yes - sim, not game).

Never will do that again.

I've never seen a forum where so many people seem so happy at not buying something that was exactly what it was advertised as.

I won't buy again blah blah blah. I haven't got what I was "promised". I feel stabbed in the back. Etc etc etc blah blah blah.

Go read the Dev updates from #1.

People keep saying this but it is simply not true. Go back to DD 21:

"When you enter a phase you'll be asked to join a regiment. The regiments available vary from phase to phase the way it happened back then during Battle of Stalingrad: some squadrons leave, some come to the front lines, join other units or get renamed. Which regiment you choose defines which side you server with - Soviet Air force or German Luftwaffe. You'll be free to change sides before every mission. Thus, all your stats gathered in the game get bound to your account while specific data is split in two separate profiles - USSR and Germany.

Every regiment has a home base and specific aircraft in service. You can use any plane that your regiment has available."

There is another section about historic awards as well.

So it is simply not true to claim that the BoS as released is exactly as was advertised. And I would still like to know why these features were cut. I have tried to read all the DDs and have not found an explanation. Perhaps you can enlighten me?

I was more expecting a robust single player campaign.
