No one is forced to grind tens of identical missions. That's just not true any more. Neither is it true that the devs were unwilling to react to community wishes. Either you buy the full game and check a box or you buy part of the game and invest time. Your choice.

You are forced to grind or pay....not much of a choice

Hi there,

Noted 8/10.

That is an overall GREAT production made with this IL2 opus, judging by the progress made during these last past month and more specifically since 2015. :salute:

Graphics in general and Flying "sensations" are just gorgeous and the potential of this game is of course a 10/10 to me (eventhough I am not an expert neither on Game programming nor in real life flying experience....just going through my 2nd Ultralight multiaxes lesson this afternoon    :fly: .

Just to explain why I didn't go for a higher evaluation...

1st: the low poilishing and immersion level provided by the current single player "campaign" with no real storyline provided by briefings nor with the possibility to identificate yourself to one specific pilot story (even fictive).... => on that note, I have seen the very impressive and inspiring work provided by Feathered_IV (check: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/11420-flying-bos-dream-campaign-sp-inspiration-singleplayers-only/?hl=%20briefing%20%20dream%20%20campaign) :clapping:

I just wait to see all of these ideas be implemented as well as other campaigns (official or not)... I am a single player at first and I was really expecting a 1st class experience in terms of campaign mode and I am still pretty desapointed by the current state of this part of the game... :nea: (The rest is just great.....!

2nd: I do really think a higher success of this kind of sim can be reached by letting the passionte members of the community express their creativity through Mods. => IL2 1946 is the best example of this.

Never the less I do understand the need for producer to keep control of the contents added and the compatitbility with their business model....

3rd: The elevator trim controls not being on Axes.... yes this is out of my understanding capacity... just wondering why?

4rth; Not that much important in the game itself  but still.... I don't really like the "cultural management" (don't really know how to call that....) made about medals and rewards..(I would have liked to get historical accuracy with comments and additionnal informations that can improve the player knowledge.... instead of hidding them and let the player in a childish void world of culture...and this don't prevent the addition of additional (as much as you want in fact....) extra fency rewards or achievments, I like them too for fun and own pride :yahoo: ....

.and about swastikas...

To me, Virtual world of gaming and siming should also be protected by the so much valuable: "Liberté d'expression".....more generally I think that a world where some words or pictures are hidden because of any kind of moral, spiritual or political reasons is a world doomed to fail....Cause the Moral or spiritual or political reasons that have been decided one day may change, evoluate in a way you don't expect/want and it will be too late to consider reacting...

That being said....Nazi signs and representations are clearly not the first thing I'd like to protect because of that principle.... :fool:

5th: I am so much waitting for a new scenario including Early war period from Poland to Battle of France and we are far from it.....

To finish on a positive note, I do really appreciate and congratulate the development team for their work and the way they integrated the players in the developments as much as possible wich as quite rarely been seen and even less frequently succeeded (cause I find the last past month actions and exchanges as a success despite hard times on both sides)

Really, big thanks and Salute.

keep it up!

:salute:

Right....so there wasn't really any willingness on the part of the developers to accommodate the communities dislike of that system. If I make an online mission for my squad with fixed load outs some of them cannot play it until they've done the unlocks.

This is the sort of stuff that holds my rating down.

AFAIK you can't actually do that. The command is there but it doesn't do anything.

I would still like to see some game play improvements for both SP and MP, I believe we'll see a dynamic campaign at some point and would desperately love to see some way of communicating with people in game chat/pager system so we can organise co-ops on the fly. The unlocks should be removed for all online play and eventually the campaign we have should probably be turned in to a tutorial and be replaced by a PWCG.

Other than that I think as a package the sim is heading in the right direction providing we are going to get improvements.

I have upgraded to an 8 because while I have my gripes I still find myself playing the sim every day and haven't touched any other of my sims for months.

I gave it a 6.

Needs some adjustments to aircraft speeds (noted in other posts) especially Russian stuff over 3-4,000m. But F4 is to fast.

Graphics are very nice, but not outstanding. (will only get better?) needs slightly longer draw distance to.

Full Real should equal Full Real, (also noted in another post), no techno chat!

Its more of a Combat Flight Game, at the moment, not a Combat Flight Simulator.

And it cant decide if its a MP or SP game, so at the moment its not that great at either.

But its still better than anything else out there!

Im going to have to change my earlier vote.

My primary objection to the game earlier wasnt about the game itslef but more so the dev decisions.

Since that last rating we have seen a policy towards the unlocks changed to something that I believe is a bit more fair (ante up-get everything) and we now have an FMB, skins, and the modders are hard at work.

Unfortunatly there is still more that is needed.

Without the ability to fine tune this game to my machine ala RoF graphics options the game cannot recieve higher than a 5. This is a fundamental problem, and the removal of custom options was fundamentally stupid. The reasons given by the devs amounted to a "we cant trust you to know whats best" are soviet at best and truely insulting.

The lack of a mods on ability, again ala RoF is also a stunningly stupid decision. Mods are a part of every single game these days, and have made RoF a true joy to fly, but for some reason it gets no consideration i a sim that has a much much MUCH broader appeal than a nice bi-plane simulator? truely...WTF?

Lastly the lack of a decent DCG and radio coms make offline play painful. The community is coming through already with mods to help, but these things should have been standard upon release. Further the devs have stated they will not change their opinion of offline play going forward, so shame on them.

So Ill give it a 4. We can fix most of the dev errors given time, but we shouldnt have to at all or we should at the very least have an easier way to impliment those fixes-Mods On mode.

This is simply not true. Jason stated just last week he is seeking a coder(s) to improve The SP content.

I do really hope he 'll find (a good and consciencious) one!

Just seen a post from a guy proposing his services... maybe thats a first step to more news on SP content soon...?

I decided to downgrade my rating of BoS from originally 7 to 4. The reasons behind it are the following:

- The SP-campaign (for me the centerpiece of every simulation) is boring and uninspiring.

- I don't see any apparent plans to improve the campaign.

- The Sim makes no progress with regard to gameplay and the new BoM module (adding some new aircrafts and summer maps) won't remedy the existing deficiencies.

You are  right, but "4" is too low for me as I still have fun when played rarely, I have downgraded it from 7 to 6

With a Co-Op mode and chat/lobby and a better campaign system I would be giving this a 10 without any doubt. I originally went for 7 but to be honest I've barely touched any other game and haven't flown any other sim since release...I was flying FC3 and CLOD before that so I think an 8 is fair from my perspective but then I've put aside my gripes to just fly and the more I do the more I enjoy what there is.

As long as there is a future then things can surely only get better...it's early days still :)

7 for me.

The SP experience was a big let down and needs improvement, hopefully by some clever 3rd party chaps. I would also like to see custom graphics setting, drop tanks and removal of unlocks from any future releases. Saying that though as far as WWII flight sims are concerned I now can't go back to flying anything else other than BoS, despite its issues. From a personal viewpoint the core element of the sim (The flying experience)  is superior to anything else currently available.

Same here.

I originally said 7 but now its a 3 for the same reasons above.

I like both SP and MP but the single player experience is soooo dull with no immersion or involvement or reason to carry on playing after completion and after unlocks.

As a game it sucks as a sim its ok but with no good SP campaign its has very short legs.

I am not holding my breath for improvements in campaign and will not invest further until there's a big improvement TBH.

Agreed its the best in its field but could do better.

Changed my vote from 6 to 7. It would be an 8 with a fixed 109 G-2 throttle and a 9 if we finally got those beautiful summer maps. For a 10 I'd need a nice offline campaign.

Changed my vote from an unengaged 'put on the shelf and don't bother with it for a while' 7 that could be anything from a 5 to a 7, to at least an 8 right now.
Why? Custom skins, Summer maps and the wonderful Macchi.. (and the upcoming BF110) (and autumn maps?)

I don't even get a panic anxiety attack putting on the track-IR hat anymore.

Still a seven but rounding up you could probably squeak an eight. Summer maps and new planes will get us to a solid eight. Some of the planes clearly still need some FM tweaks and that would get us up to an eight (and a half) as is. But all that said, high seven low eight.

I rate it at a 7 now and look forward to continued improvements.

I love it. Has everything I need. I can get on the qmb and relieve some stress shooting down beautiful planes over beautiful scenery. It runs on balanced settings very well considering my old equipment. I think the main thing that speaks to me is the fact that I have DCS and a very nicely customized modded 1946 and every time I run them I can't wait to reopen BoS.

7 for me.

Still lacking in SP department, but now Pat is working on a career. Good hope for the future.

Given that patch 1.104 has now given us a major part of the first half of the Battle of Stalingrad, which imho was a huge omission from the originally sold software, I've changed my vote from 7 to 8.

Almost exactly a year ago I rated this a 4 (post #24 here), I can only congratulate the team on the progress they've made since. Well done guys, and, again, keep going!

Changed from 4 to 8.

Must say, visually stunning and runs well on my older gpu. Really amazing

I have now given this a 7 (that's up 2 notches), purely because of the inclusion of the new maps and the continued work carried out by the developers... I certainly won't go any higher until they sort out the SP experience.

PWCG may improve the user experience, but that will not alter any score rating as it is a 3rd party inclusion, and not part of the games designers intent.

I was with you until the last sentence which makes no sense whatsoever. Pat and Jason are working together specifically to make the SP experience better.

Posted

I am still on the fence on this - my previous rather grudging 6 still stands. I fully recognize the progress in more planes and maps etc, (and even tanks) but this does not change my score - it simply means that the game is not dead, as it would be if there was no progress, since none of this actually addresses what I want.

It is good that Pat and Jason are working on the campaign generator and I hope this works out. My only reservation is that while a PWCG can add the historical/RPG flavour that stock campaign missed, it is essentially only a (very sophisticated) mission generator, so if there are areas of the core code that are preventing satisfactory SP PWCG cannot cure them. In order to get a big upgrade in my score I would need to see changes to flight formations, and flight commander control and communications. BoS is still way worse than Il2 1946 in this respect, and it is makes all the difference between flying missions essentially on your own - which you pretty much have to do now - and feeling that you are in a team.

I still recommend it purely for the flying fun and graphical looks - but as an SP game, not quite there yet.

Posted

I give a solid 7. The main "problems" I find in this game are the low level of graphical customization and the lack of good single player content. From what I have played, the campaign is pretty straightforward and besides the unlocks, there is no real value in playing it.

I am 'rating the game, as it is' as per the thread title... PWCG is not 'as it is'...

And let's not get it into anyone's head that I'm against PWCG... I have used Pat's creation extensively in RoF and thoroughly enjoyed using it.

When it has passed it's testing I'll certainly be using it with BoS. But it is not part of the developers core game, so in my eyes that just doesn't count in my rating.

4 from me. It has an incomplete and limited feel to it. Given time I'm sure it will pick up. This forum is also let down by it's members. Their antics carry across into the servers as well. WOL being the most notable so far.

Anything between a 6 and a 9 would seem to be appropriate based upon your individual needs/expectations. Anything outside of that is an outlier at best and provacative at worst. Pretty much reflected in the actual poll numbers as well.

Well, given the latest additions in the form of seasonal maps, the beta release of PWCG and (to a lesser extent) drivable tanks, I'm now ready to move my score up to a low 9/10. It really is coming together much as I'd like it. The issues that still persist aren't actually breaking the game, and I find myself continuously having more and more fun with it rather than my interest fading.

Besides the bigger changes there are those little things that just keep reminding you, that the devs really care about players actually enjoying the game, such as adding BoM and premium planes to the campaign. They didn't really have to do that, but together with the new maps it's really made the campaign feel fresh and new again.

I'm hoping the PC gaming and flight sim magazines take note and give really stellar reviews to BOM while noting the exceptional progress to BOS as well. I remember picking up JANES just because (PC Gamer?) had a brilliant super-closeup of an Fw 190 on the cover. Positive press could go a long way to filling out the ranks 'round here. Still gonna take a Western focused third or fourth installment to get everyone off the couch though.

9/10 now since the new maps and planes came out. The  feel of flight and how every aircraft feels different is what makes me really enjoy this sim.

Out of the recent updates the ground handling physics have really impressed me, I didn't expect they could or would do something like this but every time I taxi or get stuck in a rut I'm impressed and there is no way I could go back to the two sims I used to fly before, it would feel too dull.

And the tanks....I've not tried them yet but from what I've seen I will eat my own words, I think they look like a lot of fun and I will be giving them a go as soon as I can :)

I've had my grumblings about one or two things but 777 have exceeded in everything I expected from this sim, their pace of development and constant updates is incredible and I personally feel they deserve a lot of credit for this.

Congrats 777 and cheers for an awesome flight sim

Forgot to add the pilot head moving with TIR which is simply amazing!  and shrapnel and explosion effects which look really nice as well :)

7 . rated it 7 last time also, it is mainly due to the same priority the developers have. I do not say it is wrong, but the priority is not gaining my interest. But still 7 is a good rating. And I am glad the game steadily get better quality.

I haven't been flying lately, but been following the progress. And from what I've seen, my 8, would be 8.5-9 by now.
But have to verify it by finding my HOTAS and pedals, that hides somewhere in a closet, and actually start flying again.

Is it time for some revisions due to recent changes?  Lots of people said the unlocks knocked a couple of points off and now the unlocks are gone.
