LLv34_Flanker Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 S! I am more interested in the P-47D than Pony. Jug just has more appeal and brute force in it, a real tool for the trade.
Feathered_IV Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 I think DCS has got the late war uber plane thing in hand, so there's no need for 777 to duplicate that well worn path.
chris455 Posted October 24, 2014 Author Posted October 24, 2014 (edited) I think DCS has got the late war uber plane thing in hand, so there's no need for 777 to duplicate that well worn path. I couldn't agree more, Feathered. But if they want to model the (200?) or so P-47s the US gave the Russians, I would be very OK with that. Or the P-39. Or the P-40. TheElf Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 (edited) The only "logical step'' is to expand into a theatre where all of the current planeset and ground units can be continued to be used in a historical scenario, and the new ones can be used to flesh out the current one(s), Win - Win with least amount of wasted work Cheers Dakpilot This. The most logical step would be to add aircraft to the current Eastern Front Theater along with a new Summer Map perhaps in another front in the East. Plane set would add most if not all Lend Lease British and US aircraft so as to capitalize on an audience that wants those aircraft. (Spit Mk V, P-39N/Q, P-40E, A-20) while also adding a few new russian designs (I-16, Mig-3) and Germans (BF-110C, BF-109E-4, Ju-88) Then, in order to offer some variety in the combat experience open a Front with a simple Ocean/Island map (easier to produce than a masisve Eastern Front map) and add some carrier types and a few ships F4F-3, -3A, F4F-4, TBD-1, SBD-2, A6M2, B5N2, D3A) With the lend Lease Russian aircraft and these new pacific AIrcraft you've knocked out a huge part of the early Pacific Theater while ADDING to the previous Eastern Front gameplay. Anyone who thinks limiting future releases to the Eastern Front is a good idea ISN'T thinking logically. Though I will agree that the most overdone front/planeset is the 1944-45 Western front. Been there done THAT plenty...besides that is Where DCS is heading. Oh by the way, those Lend Lease A/c could also be used in a Northt Africa Map...Just saying...Now you have three unique flying experiences to choose from and some of the much needed variety that 1946 thrived on. Open your minds... Edited October 25, 2014 by TheElf
TheElf Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 I'm certainly not. And if I was, I can fly the very fine Mustang in DCS. But I'd rather fly a Jug, or anything else American, in a more immersive environment. That's why I'm hoping for a P-39 or P-40 to come along in BoS. I actually agree. The P-51 is THE single MOST overdone aircraft of all time in the Flight sim Genre. It no longer gets my blood up. Unfortunately, while DCS provides a wonderful flying experience, in it's version of the pony they are a long way off from immersing any erstwhile pony pilot in a legit WWII setting and allowing him to combat many different types of aircraft, never mind putting humans in all those different aircraft. I would love for BoS to eventually capture the Pony (or the Jug for that matter) and tame it for our combat flying pleasure, but is should be no priority. In my opinion...
LLv34_Flanker Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 (edited) S! Just no more Battle Of Britain or Overlord 1944..Eastern Front please if the options would be ETO or BoB. Edited October 25, 2014 by LLv34_Flanker
Brano Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 From what has been posted at russian forum: 1. dserver release+FMB till the end of the year together with skin viewer and templates. 2.Then Q1 2015 introduction of new seasonal textures for actual Stalingrad map (summer/autumn) to extend gameplay to whole battle raging from late august 1942.As LOFT mentioned, there are new possibilities to add planes like I16,MiG3.My personal guess maybe IL4 and SB2 bombers (me wants!) 3.Hopefully inbetween also other user made maps like that of Velykie Luki S! Just no more Battle Of Britain or Overlord 1944..Eastern Front please if the options would be ETO or BoB. +1 and Talvisota
wtornado Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 I don't care, as long as it brings the Me 110 That is one plane that I would like to have back.
TheElf Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 S! Just no more Battle Of Britain or Overlord 1944..Eastern Front please if the options would be ETO or BoB. Agreed! If those three options are the only to be considered by the Devs I sincerely hope they stick with expanding the Eastern Front vice duplicating effort in Overlord (DCS), and BoB (CloD). It would be a colossal waste of their time and our money. However if they are considering other Fronts I would hope they lean toward a Lend/Lease and Early Eastern Front theme as that would provide a host of aircraft that could roll into either an early Pacific Expansion as detailed above, perhaps to include China/AVG/Nomonhan Incident OR a N. Africa Expansion with the same Lend Lease Aircraft. Personal preference is the Early Pacific and China...I would REALLY Like to see how they approach Carrier Aviation.
TheElf Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 You know what would be repetitive? Doing another Western Front/Pacific sim. Both of those have been done like a million times before. The Eastern Front has been done once before (one, single time) and that sim later included both WTO and PTO just for good measure. Every Genre has been done a million times before, except the Eastern Front. That is a true statement. However, the Pacific was Really only ever down WELL once and that was Pacific Fighters in 2004. It has been ten years since and there is no one else going there anytime soon. You have your Eastern Front, and it will hopefully expand. I love it too...but there is so much more to be done, and I think if 1C is to attract more buyers to the sim and generate funding to keep it going and make improvements to the title as a whole, they need to reach out quickly to the WWII sim Audience with new fronts and begin to build the variety that IL-2 Sturmovik was founded on. If they limit themselves to Eastern Front content and cater only to the Russian Market they will not be as successful, particularly if they continue to charge Russian Prices for that market and Western Prices for everyone else. They will have officially targeted the wrong paying audience with content (Russia), and charged the wrong audience full price (the West). I will buy whatever they put out, because I can afford it and appreciate the work. But I can also get my BoB and DCS fix if I want it. But the majority of consumers may not and that would be bad news for IL-2 Sturmovik BoS in the long run. Just my opinion.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 It doesn't mean that such scenarios at BoS level of fidality and acessebility wouldn't be fun. I see your point but just leaving out every important scenario because it has been donw in a over 10 year old sim already isn't going to do the deal. There's no doubt a proper PTO, BoB or Battle of Britan scenario wouldn't be popular (thought later one might be too keen to consider ) and even back the creation of more exotic theatres like Spain, France and Afrika up. Personally I haven't really played a proper Pacific sim since CFS2 (long time ago) and there's definetly a great potential for BoS to revive this theatre with new physics, planes ect., though it might be a too large step. Anyway looking forward to flying the Mig-3 soon than. Pretty nice looking plane and phenominal cockpit view = win
TheBlackPenguin Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 (edited) Outside of the Eastern Front I suspect North Africa/Med and Pacific would be good choices, now the question is with the campaign system they have could they release a map and campaign with a selection of aircraft covering a season? I'm not mentioning careers, or anything beyond what we really see with BOS today, just a set like Battle of Britain with Spits, Hurricanes, 09's, 110's, 109's, Defiant's all flyable, or in the case of North African perhaps Malta, although that in total lasted 2 years.... So many options, but they shouldn't be afraid of DCS, Clod or anything from the past 10 years. Edited October 25, 2014 by TheBlackPenguin

I am not saying would never like to see BoS tackle the Western Front or even BoB. I just think other things need to come first. 1. Need to expand the current Eastern Front (would love to see I-16, Mig-3, Ju-88, Bf-110) 2. Need to open a totally different Front with new planesets (Pacific, Med, China, Nomonhan) 3. Need to continue to add features (Skinning, user generated campaigns) and improve the campaign system 4. Need to add immersive 3rd party products to keep pace with player interest 5. Need to eventually tackle all theaters and Planes
