Feathered_IV Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I played a career mission the other night and was tasked with attacking targets near Gumrak in a trusty Il-2. Most games, or rather all flight sim games have their vehicles plodding along at a very sedate pace. Easy fodder. This previous mission I chased a single truck that was fairly belting along at a good 70kmh. It was like chasing a mouse. After a few passes I was able to hit his engine and leave him smoking. Once he was stopped in the middle of the road I was able to finish him off at leisure. It was a merry chase though, and it made me wonder, is this a feature or a bug?
Finkeren Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I've wondered about the same thing. I like the extra challenge which is made even harder by the ubiquitous tress along the roads, but I think they might just drive a little too fast for a Soviet dirt track in winter conditions
LLv34_Flanker Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 S! Sometimes you see the entire column speeding like on a boost when they try to catch up with the first vehicle and pre-set distance between eachother. Hilarious sight when an Opel Blitz going like a racer.
Obelix Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 ... don't forget their Flak guns too, very accurate, and some times deadly!

If I was being chased by a big nasty IL-2 I expect I would drive as fast as possible too! Or just jump out and hide in a ditch. The thing about ground targets that amuses me is how they obligingly turn on their headlights as soon as it gets a little bit dark. 1

Yeah it seems like they'd run without headlights burning if it was a clear night. Edited October 16, 2014 by avlSteve
56RAF_phoenix56 Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 What irritates me is when you nail the three trucks, but not the leading small half-track and so you don't get credit for the convoy, even though all the supplies go up in smoke. So you chase the speeding half-track, eventually succumbing to arboreal hugging :-P 56RAF_phoenix
Rjel Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I've wondered too at times it seems like the speed of vehicle traffic is much faster. I with too trains would speed up when attacked. Especially if they could lay out very heavy smoke from their stacks.
Potenz Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 70km/h is not that fast, i can do 60km/h in my old motorized 48cc bycicle nad i'm almost 1.90 and weight almost 86kg so for a truck is an average speed
Nankeen Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 During a recorded play back, I viewed a truck collide with the truck in front of it. The soldiers bailed and ran, the rest of the convoy detoured and continued. The drivers may have been over indulging
LLv34_Flanker Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 S! The road netwrok in Russia was in terrible shape during WW2, still is mostly according to those who have to go there in trucks etc. Even an Opel Blitz could go 70km/h the average speed on those roads was lower. No winter tires, no asphalt etc. The trucks could use the "war lights" to not expose themselves miles away though..
