Reflected Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Before I go on, I have to make one thing clear: I’m a mainly SP guy, and a huge fan of the RoF career mode, and also Pat Wilson’s campaign generator tool. I love the feeling of being part of a war, part of a squadron, etc… After these my expectations were very high, and what I got is totally different, and quite a disappointment. BUT! This thread is not about this. If we take the campaign mode for what it is, actually it’s not a bad quick mission generator. You just select a battle stage, an airfield, plane/ mission type and boom. Quite handy when you don’t have a lot of time, but want more complexity than QMB. Here are a few suggestions as to how to make it better at what it’s already good at. - More variety of missions. Right now it’s escort/ intercept (always the same planes, same routine) or ground attack. How about adding Airfield attacks / scramble/ Fighter sweep, etc… - More variety within current missions. Escort is always escorting Heinkels, and I always meet 3-4 Peshkas plus a few Lagg-s on intercept missions. What about attacking Il-s at low level? Or escorting Stukas that attack tanks? More randomness in numbers would also be welcome. - Give us back the possibility to use time acceleration. Seriously, who flies full missions at only 2x? I don’t see any point, only disadvantages. - Give us the possibility to proceed with the mission if we survive. As soon as your plane is shot up you might as well hit esc, no need to bail out or crash land. But why not? As long as we’re alive on our side of the line, it should be OK. - Give us the possibility to fly in different positions of the formation. Thank you for listening. 2
KodiakJac Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) Give us back the possibility to use time acceleration. Seriously, who flies full missions at only 2x? I do In fact, I never use time compression. I fly only the full long missions in the SP Campaign, and I fly them in 1x (real time) soaking up every inch of the map. I have a friend who flies mostly MP and he claims he's never seen his plane fly from an exterior view because real pilots never did. So he stays in the pit with exterior views disabled and he always gives me a hard time because I like to fly from an exterior view when in transit. But when he's flying SP he uses time compression and I give him a hard time about it because real pilots didn't have time compression! And he has the same amount of time to fly as I do, except in 2 hours he'll fly 4 or 5 missions and I might fly one. All good ideas, Reflected, but just had to say that some people wouldn't think of using time compression Edited October 16, 2014 by Bucksnort
Ace_Pilto Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) More variety would be great and more of a focus on supporting the infantry in various ways relevant to the chapters. I'd also like to look down and see the battle of Stalingrad actually happening down there, boats crossing the Volga, rocket artillery, tank battles. AAA is present but barely, it should be teeming with flak over airfields, light flak, heavy flak, people firing their rifles and side arms and even tossing the kitchen garbage at you. The atmosphere is there in the city with the ominous plumes of smoke and it needs to be populated to bring that part of the map to life. With ground support it could be a case of "Our units are bring attacked by Artillery/tanks/whatever" destroy the target before they are wiped out!" That would be exciting. Air superiority missions and barrier patrols are missing as well and "Escort" should sometimes mean supporting low level ground attack planes as well as the level bombing sorties. On expert difficulty I'd avoid using time compression. The aircraft that appear at the action point aren't the only ones that you'll see. I've come across incidental flights of planes at the beginning and end of missions so you could end up in trouble if you are speeding along at 2x and not paying attention and these flights aren't always reported over the radio. With icons, you can probably get away with it but I'm sure we'll see time compression return to the game on release (if not before, same with unlocks for MP). One other thing, when are we going to see a Battle of Stalingrad video made by Reflected??? I really enjoyed the ones you did for Rise of Flight. Edited October 16, 2014 by JimmyBlonde
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) Good thread. Putting all the unlock baggage aside, what about the SP campaign? I have flown a few missions. I wouldn't consider them great but they have potential. When you said that "...actually it’s not a bad quick mission generator..." you got me thinking. How much would it take to make it a really good quick mission generator, and not only for sp but also for mp? You would need to be allowed to specify the type of mission, size of your flight, say 2 to 16 aircraft, the aircraft types, loadouts, etc. You would then specify whether sp or mp. If mp, it would allow you to name it and save the mission in the appropriate folder to use in your server. In mp, all planes would be available to fly, those not taken by a human would be manned by AI. Something along these lines would be soooooo helpful to people that do not have the time, energy, or knowledge to deal with the ME. IMO, this is a great way to make a silk purse of a sow's ear .
