8 days later... cracking on!

Well, 16x is now locked to anyone that just wants to crack on through the missions to get their favourite skins or weapon sets.

 

Unless a talented user gets his hands on the ME and we get another set of missions or minor campaign to play, I'm not sure I want to play through the same campaign again it has to be said (only my personal view you understand)...

 

Don't get me wrong though, there are some beautiful effects in game, some of the missions were pretty good, but most were just same old same old, over and over.

The reason I switched from plane to plane was simply to try and get some variation in the mission experience, as I was getting bored just grinding away with what seemed to be a rinse and repeat cycle with either 'escort or intercept' being the only choice.

Escort was exactly the same experience every time, the same amount of bombers, the same amount of enemy.

Intercept was again the same, attacking the same amount of bombers with the same fighter escort behind, no variation whatsoever.

 

Again I'll say it... the game isn't finished yet and maybe the devs will be able to spice up the missions and vary the numbers a bit more.

If they don't, and leave it as is, a new player will rapidly get bored with the same old format, regardless of the shiney medals he is earning.

Personally I do not care about the unlocks for now - they will all be reset soon enough.

 

Seems to me that if you were to take the user base from 2 weeks ago and see what they are doing now, you would find:

 

1) A few writing zero out of ten reviews for metacritic

 

2) Most MP players doing something else, like trying to find a child to grind for unlocks for them after release

 

3) A few SP players fantasizing about how wonderful everything is going to be now that the devs have said the SP campaign is incomplete

 

4) A few people trying out the SP campaign for it's own sake and making practical suggestions for improvement (and no I do not mean suggestions like "ditch the whole concept" or worse).

 

I wish there were more in category 4. I also wish that some of our suggestions would be acted on or at least elicit a response.

 

So cracking on indeed!

 

I HAVE tried it last weak, flew 1 hour (netto) total during which I unlocked:

- whole 1st chapter completed (second unlocked)

- LaGG-3: 2 gunmods, 3 skins

- Bf-109F4: 2 gun mods, 2 skins

- lost any further interest in this arcade path

 

Old IL-2 1946 campaigns are WAY better even after 10 yrs which is really sad to say.

Their principles and design are no secret.

 

I am just affraid that trying to get WT type of players over here is a mistake, because, they won't pay for a game with MUCH less planes quite a big price and 'sim' crowd surely won't be attracted by such an arcade setup (speaking of SP and all that grinding forced even on MP players).

 

So, am I the category 4 guy or not?

I have done about the same amount of unlocks as you, but it has taken me 11 hours. Why? Because I am not flying arcade. Expert settings, long mission, use HUD only for simultaneous translator of radio messages, use O for map. Bailed out a few times, killed once (collision - my reflexes not really up to this any more).

 

Cannot avoid the yellow messages, but do not notice them so much now, but generally it is only arcade if you set it up to be arcade.

 

Sounds to me as though you are more a category 2 type (nothing wrong with that, BTW)

If I hate to do something (which was a nonsense just 2 weeks ago for me) I want to get over it as soon as I can.

But now I just dont CARE anymore.

And this is the most sad and unexpected feeling for me since BoS started.

The airfields where I land at the end of my missions are populated and in some of my missions I do encounter other enemies than the one of the mission (Ju87 bombing troops while I was chasing He111) and there are many troops on the ground also some flak (friends and foes).

Weather is very seldom twice the same and when there are clouds it is possible to play with them to avoid detection or disappear in them. 

There could be some place for improvement but I am optimistic.

I find it hard to believe we are the only 2 who are experiencing this problem.

Here the answer I received from support :

 

Since our last letter to you did 7 missions in campaign, 3 of them you have completed successfully. Apparently, the number of successful missions were enough for the opening of the second chapter.

 

Strange as this has nothing to do with the first chapter goals. Or may be there is a feature I do not know.

As someone who NEVER fly offline, I am quite pleased with the campaign so far. Sure it could be more immersive and the missions could be more diversified, bit I am optimisticallyy surprised. I have concentrated flying 109 F4 and the La5. So far I am at level 5 and half way through the 3rd chapter on Expert and short. 
At this moment and time when the online server lack content, I find that I get more diversity in this campaign that I do online.. so ... as a MP only, I a, quite content. I can actually see myself flying single player in the future..

Is there a way to save a campaign mission that you like after having flown it so you can fly it again at some point later on?
