SCG_Neun Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 (edited) I've got that same card Extreme.....thanks I'm in for a tweak. Edited October 13, 2014 by JagdNeun
Vaxxtx Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Yeah, even now, with a heavy dose of antialiasing the old game does still look pretty good. Especially if you're flying a carrier mission, over lots of water, you barely notice you're flying in a 13 year old game engine. Thats another reason to play the PTO. The water looks great with just about any of the water mods. The plane models are still holding up very well too.

I have got to brush up on my carrier landings , got through a nice long mission of intercepting some bombers, shot a couple down, and made it back to the carrier only to crash and burn on the deck lol. I am loving DCG! Edited October 13, 2014 by dburnette
Vaxxtx Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Indeed. I have got to brush up on my carrier landings , got through a nice long mission of intercepting some bombers, shot a couple down, and made it back to the carrier only to crash and burn on the deck lol. I am loving DCG! Try landing on a carrier that had a few torpedoes into the starboard side and is listing and smoking. That is fun. Yeah, DCG has so many options. Its the ultimate sandbox campaign maker. You can tweak or not, its amazing either way. If you want to get into the customization of things, adding plane skins and more pilot portraits is fun too. There is also a "speech" mod I use to make the Germans speak English with German accents. Its a little thing but love the fact its there.

Bearcat Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Don't forget about Mission 4 Today. M4T is the premier site for all things IL2.
Lusekofte Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 This is a very active site : http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php Yes I am admin there it is pretty active with 11 000 breathing members , my name there are Le0ne . I fly more 1946 than I do cod and bos. It is less noisy and no shitstorm what so ever atm.
Bearcat Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Ok thanks , will check them out. I just used the auto-updater to bring it up to 7.03, pretty slick tool. Yeah 46 is great.. I have two installs one with the SAS Mod activator but online I fly HSFX. The graphics on 46 while definitely dated are not bad at all..
Uufflakke Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Who would have thought that IL2:1946 still has an active community after all those years. It has been declared dead a couple of times already. It survived CLOD and the never released BOM, some disappointed BOS members return to 46 and we still don't know exactly what DCS:WWII with EDGE has to offer.
Bearcat Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 I think 46 will still be flown 5 years from now.
Catseye Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Hmmmm, I might have another look at 46 after shelving it for many years now, but considering all the mods - which one to download these days?
1./JG42Nephris Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Use 4.12.2 and HSFX 7.0.3 I suppose aswell Il2 1946 will survive even BoS. The situation BoS presents itself to be in atm, proves the value the old Il2 1946 actually has. 2

Bearcat Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 It is kind of funny because once I flew IL2 I could not go back to CFS 1 or 2... I just couldn't.. but I have flown BoS and CoD .. and I can still get a great deal of enjoyment .. and challenge from IL2. Remarkable really when you consider that IL2 is as old as it is. The main reason I even fly and bought BoS and CoD was for the technically updated eye candy and fidelity... but IL2 still gets it done for me as far as just fun goes... Not that the others do not as well.. but .. I need mah Mustang!! 1
=LD=Hethwill Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 (edited) IL-2 has all this years worth of community campaigns and mission packs and skins. It makes it a lively experience that few more modern games can give... yet Edited November 13, 2014 by =LD=Hethwill_Khan
Vaxxtx Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 (edited) IL-2 has all this years worth of community campaigns and mission packs and skins. It makes it a lively experience that few more modern games can give... yet Considering I have 5 installs of IL2 running different mod packs, I have to say the life in 46 has at least another for years. I always take a break from it but always come back a new way to play it. The Full Monty for 4.12, Pre-DBW2, the new Modact, HSFX 7, and eagerly awaiting Dark Blue World 2. But yes, they all seem to offer something for everyone. The bad part about it? It can be overwhelming to pick and choose, and also can be daunting for someone new to it. Heck it took 2 days to download and install The Full Monty for 4.12 and final install size it over 65gigs lol. But again the amount of content + visuals + effects + sounds, makes it worth the time. For someone installing IL246 for the first time, or that has not played it in a long time, HSFX 7, and DCG is small and easy to use and will add 1 year + worth of gaming, even if you are like me and only play LW and USN campaigns.
