dburne Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) Hey gang, With recent developments, I have decided to go back to IL2 1946 for a while ( along with TF Cliffs). I found 1946 DVD this morning, and have successfully installed it on Windows 8.1. I have also installed the 4.12.2M MegaPatch and have it patched up to that version, which I believe to be the latest version. Got my video mode set to 1920x1080 full screen with wide FOV, all is ok there. Question at this point - I am running Nvidia GTX 770 vid card, do you guys that run Nvidia run in Open GL or DirectX mode? Is running one better than the other for 1946 with Nvidia cards? Thanks for any tips, Edited October 11, 2014 by dburnette
dburne Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 Hi 1946 needs OpenGL Ok thanks I will change it to Open GL. Couple other questions: With Open GL, set landscape to " Perfect" ? Attempt stencil buffer - should that be set to on ? ( is what it defaulted to). Thanks,

dburne Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) Hey gang, Just curious, where is most of the current 1946 discussions going on these days? Last time I was into the sim it was the Ubi forums? Edit: Ok found the Ubisoft IL-2 forum, looks like it is still pretty active, and I see some names I recognize on there. Jocko Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 This is a very active site : http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php
dburne Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 Many thanks Jocko, I will check that out. Though I must say the more I read about all the mods available for 1946 the more confused I get lol. I might be better off just flying 4.12.2M version for a while, I probably need to go ahead and set up a profile for my Warthog for it anyway.
DD_fruitbat Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) 4.12.2 + hsfx7 is the way to go, game is still fantastic in that combo. home of the Hsfx mod, http://www.242sqn.com/phpBB2/index.php Edited October 11, 2014 by fruitbat
dburne Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) Thanks fruitbat, if I mod it I will go with that one to try. Ok found the HSFX7 files available for download over at mission4today ( did not want to install a torrent program and go that route), downloading the files now - abeit at a bit of a slow rate. I got nothing better to do today anyways . Edited October 11, 2014 by dburnette
Uufflakke Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 As mentioned before SAS1946 is the place to be for modded IL2:1946. They also have a board with other IL2 related mod sites: http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/board,9.0.html Several modpacks are available at SAS1946 for different installs like 4.09, 4.10, 4.11, 4.12 On top of that you can add new modified stuff that comes out every couple of days. Sometimes I feel like a spoilt kid in a toy store. You grap this from the shelf and grab that from another shelf. And all for free. And if you don't like what you took with you, you just throw it in the wastebasket and go for a better version.

I am going to make a copy of my 46 install to install the HSFX7 mod, will probably make another copy of the install as well to try some of these other mods. Thanks,
dburne Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 Awesome, thanks Extreme I will give those setting a try!
Jocko Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Those are great control panel settings for 1946, thanks... Can I ask what settings you use for BOS? I have a GTX780
dburne Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) Ok I have successfully installed HSFX7 onto a clean 4.12.2M installation of 1946. I copied to a separate directory to keep it separate, in case I need my fresh install or want to try other mods. Now I just need to create my Warthog profile and adjust my graphics to Extreme's settings. Thanks gang! Edited October 11, 2014 by dburnette
DD_fruitbat Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 You will enjoy , but a word of warning, the ai in il2, post a 4.10/4.11 (can't remember which) are very good, best ai in any flight sim I have come up against, miles better than this game or Clods.

Oh just great, that is what I need LOL... Hey btw, I used JSGME to enable HSFX7 Historical Mod, per the instructions - but I noticed JSGME listed some other items on the left there that could be moved over and activated, don't know what those are about? Yeah, BOS felt like the original IL2. Ai just looping <yawn> even though the graphics are dated now, it will take a long time for BOS to catch up to IL2 (modded) in many ways. I like the HSFX pack, though will try out Histomod shortly. Team Fusion's CLOD is shaping up nicely - kind of between IL2 and BOS.

You can activate those as you wish, really only matters online to have them the same for all those flying, in the dangerdogz we have set ones we use so there is no online weirdness. Offline, the world is your lobster.....

DD_fruitbat Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 I would recommend for offline, Hsfx history mod Expert mode Perfect map textures Hakenkreuz enabler Carrier Takeoff 5.7 for Hsfx 7 Tiger Flybys

dburne Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 I am getting there! Have been working on a Warthog profile this morning, thankfully I was able to pretty much use my Cliffs of Dover profile and Macro file as a template, made setting it up easier. Have a few more commands to adjust on, but it is about there. I have also set my graphics to Extreme's recommendations, and grabbed DCG as well. Going to have a look at some user made campaigns and see what I can grab, really interested in some Pacific action. I hope to be able to play it some later this afternoon. Thanks again for all the help gang, I really appreciate it, has made getting it set up and going much easier!
DD_fruitbat Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 mission4today, enough said. seriously, some amazing user made campaigns there, pto and all.

Not much need to look too far for user campaigns, yet. I am currently playing the Pacific USN pilot (F6F-5 plane) off the carrier Lexington in 1943. 7 missions in and already escorted TBD torpedo bombers taking out ships by the shore, escorted SBD dive bombers to an island airfield, and protected the fleet numerous time from Japanese bombers. Already lost one ship to Japans torpedo bombers, bailed out 2 times, but gained a few aces in my squadron, and also lost a few good one. So far its been a blast. All this is with the stock DCG campaigns, HSFX 7.03, some effects mods, water mods, I think some map textures, and paint schemes to customize my squad. 1

dburne Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 Been having a look in DCG, how did you get a Pacific campaign in 43? All I see under USN for Pacific is 42 or 44? I am sure I am probably not looking at it properly, I probably need to read the instructions better.

Both under options. Next close dcg open il2. Pick a career under the USN. Pick any campaign with (DCG) behind the name. Then play. You can go and tweak dcg for specific options you want or just play as is.

Ah ok, I have it installed I was just trying to pick one from the DCG menu, did not choose full auto generation and replace dgen. Thanks, I will do that. Getting close to trying this out!

dburne Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 Ok, I have successfully started a career as a US Navy pilot in the Pacific - DCG - early war, 41, flying F4F's ( gotta love the manual gear lol). Dang, this is looking pretty darn good for such a dated sim, think I am going to enjoy this. Have some small quirks in my controller setup I need to get ironed out, just need to tweak my profile a little I think. Thanks so much gang!
DD_fruitbat Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 It's going to be worked on in CloD.....we have plans Clod with ai, like in current il21946 or approaching = nirvana! I long to recreate a co-op campaign I did/hosted for the dangerodgz based on Al Deere's 'nine lives' in il21946, but in Clod. Would be just fantastic, but ai is a limiting factor. That said, i am aware of your/Tf plans, and think what you have already as Team fusion achieved, well above and beyond. 1

No doubt, while I am enjoying 1946 again after all these years , especially as I can get some PTO action, TF Cliffs remains my main go to and most favorite WWII combat sim. What TF has done for this sim is absolutely incredible, and I so look forward to seeing what they have in store for us next! Edited October 13, 2014 by dburnette
