chris455 Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 I notice we don't have one................. Should we?
SharpeXB Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 I don't believe the Revi had that adjustment.
chris455 Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 I don't believe the Revi had that adjustment. Certainly there must have been a way to solve for range??
Sokol1 Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Look at "combat range" http://www.allworldwars.com/Luftwaffe-Gunnery-Primer-D-Luft-5000-1.html
Potenz Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 revi doesn't had the range adjustment like british or american gunsights
chris455 Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 Thanks all, Interesting read re: range. I guess the Germans used the fixed reticle to mentally calculate combat ranges. Good stuff!
Potenz Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 this is an old but useful video on how to ranging with fixed gunsight like the revi series
SharpeXB Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 There's a dial on the Russian sights that looks like a range adjustment though?
1./JG42Nephris Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) Maybe this is a nice addition to the thread. It is the "Schiessfibel" (fighter shooting bibel) last updated 1944 for Luftwaffe pilots in "comic style". Of course it is in german, but the pictures will give you an overview of the idea behind. You will notice aswell some easy explanations to the ReVi and how to measure & when to pull the trigger. edit: translated version at M4T Edited October 11, 2014 by 1./JG42Nephris 1
Matt Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 (edited) There's a dial on the Russian sights that looks like a range adjustment though? That's for "tilting" the reflector glass for bombing purposes. It has nothing to do with range adjustment. Ranges were fixed on the gunsights we're having in BoS. Edited October 12, 2014 by Matt
1CGS Han Posted October 12, 2014 1CGS Posted October 12, 2014 Can't imagine how adjustible range may help while guns are convergenced on fixed range...
354thFG_Leifr Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Can't imagine how adjustible range may help while guns are convergenced on fixed range... I think you may be misappropriating what is being said here. As an example, the reflector gunsight in the RAF aircraft in CLoD can be manually adjusted to account for the range that your armaments have been configured for. I usually set convergence to 250 on the RAF (8x Brownings!) and then dial down the reflector gunsight manually (it defaults at 400) to match the set range.
Sokol1 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 "I usually set convergence to 250 on the RAF (8x Brownings!) and then dial down the reflector gunsight manually (it defaults at 400) to match the set range"... and this for specific targets, e.g diall adjust to match Bf 109 wingspan, latter (in same mission) for He111, etc. making unnecessary do range estimation. Of course this is for RL gunsights that have this adjust.
unreasonable Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 edit: translated version at M4T +1, Thanks for that link, I was looking for this just the other day... forgotten how good M4T is.
chris455 Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 Can't imagine how adjustible range may help while guns are convergenced on fixed range... If the Germans designed the Revi without range adjustment, (clearly this is so) I am good with it, but remember that British and Amercian sights typically did have a range adjustment, even with fixed convergence.
