Thanks for the update.  I for one am much more excited for the future of this title.  Looking forward to the change log in a few hours...

One of the issues with the SP unlocks etc was would these unnlocks be forced upon MP servers rather than allowing the mission maker to set the scene properly , I can`t see any answers to the real questions posed aside from addressing the lack of feel to the SP campaign. It`s like a political party broadcast , loads of waffle and not a lot of hard fact content. I`m with ST A minor 7th flat 5th on this one ( I guess you`re a Hendrix fan or guitar player??)

No XP MP = No play for me and my squad

Sorry, I will do the XP "must" only once and fly MP exclusively after that

No sound bubble being addressed yet?

And are we looking at 6-12 months for a "decent" campaign or am I reading it wrong?

S!

My opinion for a good campaign: Take a look at Falcon 4 system or Rowan's Battle of Britain, those were great

Both killed off their developers LOL.

I think the non-answer gives us the answer.  They won't be changing things.

..or so. We're preparing an important version (from the technical point of view) so it may take long this time. I still hope it'll be earlier than 2 am :)

Returns Multi-monitor support ?

Great news, again!

Really like the job that has been done since the start.

I have less doubts as time goes: really IL2 Battle Of Stalingrad is my new IL2, i love it and of course as said by a poster above we are still with you...

1CGS guys, you rock the sim world!

The half-year or one-year time schedule for fleshed out single player campaigns sounds very realistic to me. I was very surprised to see the criticism from some people of the campaign after it had been out (in beta) for one week, and that before the official release of the sim. Most simmers know that campaigns take a long time - and usually community interaction - to flesh out. That's just how it is in sand-box games like a flight sim.

Fantastic news on a possible AI-flown Ju-52. It will add immense realism to the sim. Though I think it is rather sadistic when people say they can't wait to shoot it down! - Come on guys, go up against something that can fight back!  :-)

Here's hoping the development team will stick to their guns regarding their vision for the sim. We need new thinking in combat flight sims to bring in more fans. If that means unlocks of secondary features in the planes then that is perfectly fine with me: it will make it much more engaging to try out the single player campaigns.

- However, I was thinking one thing: how about keeping the unlocks system, but maybe also let them be rewards for accomplishments in multi-player? Points for killing a certain number of opponents, for doing a succesful bombing raid, for accomplishing a night landing... - The opportunities are endless. That could perhaps placate some of the critics... - Anyway, I have no beef with the system as it is. Flight sims shouldn't be created by committee or - shudder - by following the loudest mouthes in the forums. They are a vision by a team of artists, designers and programmers: the guys who actually make the sim and who are the ones who decide how they want it to work.

"Some time later a special page with all pilots stats will be published. You’ll be able to check your progress on the game’s web page and also see your friends stats. In the future the system of "ACHIEVEMENTS" may also be developed for the multiplayer as well."

So 500 kills unlocks the achievement - Reward = Historical Winter Skin

1000 kills unlocks the achievement - Reward = Field Mod Heavy duty canopy glass armour

I worry when I read the word achievement as it is usually linked to rewards/unlocks or 'arcade' games. But a full stats page would be nice :)

Does anyone know whether the stats will be mandatory for everyone? Because I hate stats. I'm a total stat whore and it keeps me from enjoying the game. I know it's silly but I just can't stand it if my k/d is lower than my opponent's or something, I'm just way too competitive and my skills don't quite match up :/

So, whats new, i must of missed it cuz my brain stopped working after aerial domination.

I don't think you missed anything. Guess you will have to wait for the changelog to be posted to see what will be changed with the new update when it comes out.

Man imagine yourself flying the Ju52 and dropping Fallschirmjager above the objective with flak all around.

It will be AI only.

Pleased to read that the current campaign isn't considered finished beyond polish and bug fixing before release. Will be interesting to see how things turn out.

I'm a little intrigued by the comment on non-linearity. Does anyone have more context on that?

Too bad no one has a plausible explanation for how unlocks will bring in more people.

Because it is a chalenge and sp missions players love chalenges?!

Thanks for the update, these are promising news. You built up a very impressing map and a bunch of wonderful planes to fly, which has taken over a year to develop. I am sure a realistic and thrilling (and maybe some "oldschool") campaign will take comparable time, too. It would be great when you pick up some of the community suggestions to implement in an overhauled future campaign for more feeling you are right in the middle of it. I do think, that immersion has strongly to do with how much you can really identify yourself with the role of a pilot in that scenario in all facets. And talking about immersion I would suggest to improve that AI at first. Please give me (us?) the feeling to be a part of the flight and not "me and three others", anyway doing want they want. Let me say I still have faith in your project, if I have to wait some month. I wish you have enough energy and of course the financial power to reach your goal. Keep it up!

The missions aren't more challenging because of unlocks.  I'm pretty sure that the challenge is exactly the same.

Wasn't it irony?

Unlocks are fine for free to play games, or for offline campaign, but restricting available plane set based on campaign after we paid for the game? Honestly? How can anyone with a brain think that's a good idea?????????????

Because and I heard it straight from the horses mouth with my own ears "the SP campaign is a passion of one of the devs and he wants everyone to play it", they were the exact words.

Beats me why any niche market game would want to force it`s will on an entire community. The campaign is/will be good for SP players and I`ll happily play it , but MP mission makers want free range to use every option available to them to make the best scenarios possible without worrying if half the clientele have "earned" the right to use certain weapons.

Great update Zak!

It's so good to see you adressing the fierce discussions there have been on the forums the last and acknowledging, that the campaign right now is just a mere foundation to be built upon over the coming months. That to me is very good news. I don't mind the final campaign not being ready for release as long as we know it's coming. Despite my criticisms, I really do believe both the sim and the campaign to be very good at its core, and it's an important signal for me, that you think of it also as a "core" and not as a finished product.

Great news about the Ju 52. AI only is good for a start, but you know there's only one way to, and that is to make it eventually flyable and make us pay for it. ;)

Not all single players are into these unlocks either...

With the Auntie Ju possibly turning up in game is good news, even as AI... which is a compromise from the dev's as it was stated at the start there would only ever be flyables, so that is excellent progress :)

Some people will swallow anything.

Stating that "one year to make a campaign sounds reasonable to me" is yet another one of those meaningless sycophantic statements that make us all appear a bit simple.

How many people are in this team that will spend six months to a year ... ?

Let's call that figure 'X' for the sake of debate.

So if the team had employed 'X' number of people solely working on the campaign mode for the last 12 months, would it have been unreasonable to think they could have been showing the final campaign to us now?

It takes how long to build a working feature in a game?

It depends on how many people you put on the project.

I am surprised at what will be delivered, considering we were told there would be no coop mode (as per the traditional definition) and that single player was the focus of this game at release.

Now we're told exactly how focused, and how much more focused they need to be to build a decent campaign.

Shame they can't invest some more cash now, build a team to put a GOOD campaign in ASAP - DELAY the release so that, when it gets reviewed by the mainstream press, the immersive campaign this sim deserves, and the good reviews will help sell this sim to the target audience in the required numbers.

Or, shove it out in a month in its current state, let the press give it mediocre or poor reviews and sell nothing like the numbers.

Well put

Also, I think the Ju-52 has to make an appearance in this game, even if its only as an AI aircraft.

This!

That was what really enticed me to BOS, being a single player, and that they did state very early on that was the main focus of BOS. And being familiar with the ROF Career system, I had very high hopes. I had been so looking forward each week, to when we would finally get a taste of what the campaign was going to be like...

Yet another excellent post by you . Nice one EO. There speaks the voice of reason.

LOL.

I am an "SP'er" and as an "SP'er" I will tell you, I bloody hate these unlocks.  I feel it just cheapens the game and really takes the shine off it.
