indiaciki Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I'm just curious. I know that we all like both. But let's say you had to choose one...
Roast Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Getting into aerial combat flying a historical plane That would be option C, wouldn't it? 3
J2_Trupobaw Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Flying a historical plane with a purpose. Can do it to enter the combat, to land, to make it to chosen destination... as long as I have a goal.
-00-AR2 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Same opinion, option C. But I think the flight models feels so good, that having some historical planes like the Storch or the JU 52 just for flying would be great.
Talisman Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 No vote from me as need both. Star Wars gives combat, but need some sort of historical base so I don't fly Star Wars.
=LD=Hethwill Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 C. The Full Package 1. Briefing 2. Jump into plane 3. Taxi 4. Takeoff along others players 5. Ingress 6. Air Combat 7. Pray & Curse 6. Air Combat 8. Regress 9. Land 10. Debrief
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 That's like asking: Have you stopped beating your wife? 1. Yes 2. No
J2_Trupobaw Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 That's like asking: Have you stopped beating your wife? 1. Yes 2. No 3. I don't know.
PFR_Bearkiller72 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) That's like asking: Have you stopped beating your wife? 1. Yes 2. No Not married. And now? 4 days no sleep, bright desktop lamp, shining right at your face, three Gestapo officers swirling around: "k'mon, you vill answer ze Questchen!"? Or what? Easy answer: in the context of this, our game, "Il-2 Sturmovik: Battle Of Stalingrad", in the following called "BoS", which is, as used in existing in virtual, but usable form by a selected group of members, real-life persons, not company bodies, I like to fly aerial combat. Ask me on the DCS forum and I'll vote for flying the historical A/C. Pancake, isn't it? Edited October 10, 2014 by SK_Bearkiller72
-TBC-AeroAce Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Kinda silly question I guess if forced would have to be flying historical aircraft as u could not have good combat without them imo
Nil Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 (1+2) My priority is flying historical aircraft in historical aerial combat
indiaciki Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 People still fly warbirds... i fly the P51D and the huey and soon the mig21 bis in DCS with no intetion to fight, so it's not that obvious
-NW-ChiefRedCloud Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I'd have to say that flying the historical birds is my top choice. And then the realization that as much as I enjoy what little feelings I get from a flight sim that it is not the same as the real thing. The stress, the strain, the jolts, the vibrations, the sounds and smells and everything else that a real presents is not there. Yet we do have the grace and visual sensation of flight. If this is all I can get, then I'll take it and say thank you to those who create them for me to fly. Chief

TG-55Panthercules Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 +1 to the folks who have pointed out that the poll's two questions do not provide adequate alternatives. It's really both 1 and 2 for me as well - flying the old birds is definitely a big attraction for me, but if it's just a matter of joyriding in an historically accurate aircraft out of context with nothing appropriate to do, that would not be anything I would spend any significant amount of money or time on. I'm really interested in a combat flight simulator, not a flight school simulator. Conversely, I have no real interest in the aerial combat unless it's being done with sufficiently accurate historical aircraft - otherwise, I might as well be playing 1943 - the Battle of Midway (the quintessential platform/arcade aerial warfare game, not the least for the fact that they couldn't even get the year right ) or maybe X-Wing vs TIE Fighter.
indiaciki Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 okay. let's put it this way: wolud you fly bos ordcs if there was no combat? If you are combat vs flying biased in favour of combat - what other sim would you fly?
Lusekofte Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 This game is not the right one for just flying, it is built to fight. I use DCS for just flying, it need to be complex. But I would not have buyed this game as is if it had not been for the WW2 theme. I bought it in the hope for a good single player, sorry there is no yes or no in question like this
