heinkill Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I'd forgotten what fun it is to go up in this airborne tank... Started a campaign flying IL2 with rear gunner out of Pichuga on the Don Front with 228ShAP. (OK I made that up, have to give myself some sort of immersion - VVS experts feel free to tell me which units were actually based at either Pichuga, Verkhne Pogromnoye or Rakhinka, as these are the VVS airfields I have open at this stage.) Not all missions going to plan - one night attack on artillery was fine, next was a convoy attack, again fine. Attack on tanks near Panshino...not so much. At least my gunner made it down (and into a POW camp). Like I said, love the IL2, it can take a real beating, but it doesn't always love me! These first few missions though have been very light on enemy air activity...only one or two fightes spotted and always outnumbered by our escorts. Have not had to avoid enemy air at all yet, and no flak observed. That needs to be ratcheted up a notch to make the missions more interesting, even though this is the first phase of the campaign - weren't the first phases the ones where the VVS was outnumbered dramatically? The sky should be full of German fighters? H
216th_Jordan Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Actually you would not meet a lot of fighters or bombers on many patrols, encounters were really not that common but you can see them in BOS, like in a furball far away from the action point. (for example) So i think thats quite fine, but there may be some more AAA, that would add a lot of immersion and make the missions more interesting.
carts Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 (edited) You broke your plane, its the naughty step for you! Or should that be Naughty steppe? Edited October 8, 2014 by carts 1
heinkill Posted October 8, 2014 Author Posted October 8, 2014 (edited) Plenty of funny sights along the way though... convoy attack, scared the convoy into going off road, across a field and... Into the river. Mission success! Sheepdog style. (Actually I think maybe maybe vehicles can't cross bridges, and so go amok when they meet one? Same problem in Cliffs of Dover, you can't place vehicle waypoints across rivers/bridges.) Edited October 8, 2014 by heinkill

mbv Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I've unlocked all the skins for the IL-2 and I don't see that amazing snake skin - is that just a gold founder perk ?
Finkeren Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 I gotta say the one good thing the campaign has done for me is that it's increased my enthusiasm for mud moving in BoS by an order of magnitude. The IL-2 has always had that certain appeal for me, it just has so much character

I've watched vehicles crossing a bridge cool as you like (a real "At last!" moment from a CloD veteran such as myself). This from the vantage point of my bellied-up Stuka, about 50 meters away. Gotta remember them dive brakes... Edited October 9, 2014 by No601_Swallow
