Multiplayer Dead?

Recommended Posts

So I just logged in for some prime time Eastern time zone action!   Only 2 players on the Syndicate Server.

I remember a week ago we'd have between 50-60 players spread across Eagles Nest and Syndicate during this time.

Is this the end?  Sad Panda.

Pretty much all I've ever done is MP but I've been doing the campaign in order to unlock the stuff I  was used to using on the MP servers. It may take me a while,Then I'll be back.

without good multiplayer servers, its gonna be just like all the time before SYN and EN went up, i'd log in for a sortie or 2 and then go play another game...

I wouldnt bet on that.

Maybe a lot of guys dont even bother anymore playing MP due given reasons.

Honestly, I'm feeling pretty dismayed given the developer feedback and it doesn't seem like any of the issues we as a squad have will be addressed in the near future.

Furthermore, I don't have an interest in sitting through the campaign once now and then again in two or three weeks to unlock more stuff. It's a bit of a moot point though as without the Eagle's Nest server there isn't a good NA server to use. (The SYN server is great as well, but it is sometimes full when we need it and sometimes it's down).

At the moment our merry band are thinking about just going back to CloD: TF or even IL:2 1946. All we want to do is meet once or twice a week and shoot down some planes together as a squad.

I'm busy unlocking things.  The AI is definitely regretting this design decision.

Is there a benefit to doing the SP campaign for unlocks?   Aren't we just going to have to do them again on release?

Posted

We have to do them again.

I've stopped playing because of the removal of the Eagles Nest US server - they had some excellent settings, etc. After flying 2 missions of the campaign, I realised I'd prefer flying online exclusively. Maybe when the game is released and there's servers pinging <250 from Aust, I might try again.

Otherwise I'll stick to Elite:Dangerous.

Just wondering how:

How servers will handle with separate planes selling stuff in future? Imagine +4 planes sold
Imagine a virtual war campaign, how can a server will make the planeset if some people will have them and others don't ? How make it fair?

How make fair these unlock stuff? MP players will be obligated to fly these boring sp campaign?

How can user will make their own server without the FMB?

The skins ability, which make a huge activity in the community, will survive?

The BOS  can't be like the il2 sucess with this design.

If the implementation stays the way it is right now, mission builders are limited from placing objectives that reward or punish players in terms of armament loadouts ESPECIALLY since the game kicks you from the server if you mistakenly pick a loadout you don't have. The mission I had on the Eagle's Nest had ammo depots that could be destroyed and would limit aircraft's choices of weapons and ammo...wouldn't mean much to the guy that doesn't want to and didn't bother with unlocking things in SP, since he cannot be rewarded with a shiny new cannon that he hasn't unlocked, nor can he be punished since he has the baseline weapons configuration...well I suppose I could force an "empty" loadout, but that wouldn't be much fun. I guess it's good for your team, but given the situation, you can't bank on the guy next to you also having the appropriate unlocks. This unlocks system just guts the importance of simulation of an objective and literally adds nothing--only takes away from the experience from a historical and gameplay perspective.

How do you do this? I can't pick something I don't have unlocked. And offical BoS and SYN server work fine with the stuff I have unlocked.

Now just speaking for myself:

Btw, what is all the fuzz with the unlocks? All you need is a white skin for RU planes, rest is just eye candy or optional. "Stock" planes do good in their given role or not?

And while upgrading my LaGG with the 37mm gun I had lots of fun doing so.  :salute:

Sorry I may be being dense here but how can you mistakenly choose a loadout that is locked?

That was in reference to the mission framework I had set up that had a predefined armament loadout array for different roles of each aircraft available at each airfield. Every applicable role of each aircraft was available on the spawn screen and was available based on whether or not that airfield had enough supply available and its supply depot intact/not destroyed by the enemy. Loadouts were locked to enforce the supply line objective system, but everything was available if you defended your supply.

Having unlocks in MP effectively nullified that system and made it so non SP playing people were just going to have the baseline upgrades anyway.

Ah, now I get it. For these mission type servers unlocks should be avaiable like you did it, on simple dogfight servers I can life just fine with currend system. But if the mission builder supports this, it should only depend on the mission!

There's absolutely no reason to fly bombers or JaBo configuration in the first place on the dogfight servers and more often than not you probably even want to be seen by the enemy to get you into the action more quickly.

So yeah, it works fine for that at least. Yay...

I've been enjoying tthe campaign.. well mostly because I wanted the unlocks and the skins... but now I have to say I am really enjoying myself. In comparison what one might get on the online server right now... there is much more diversity in the campaign.. and I am quite happy about it...

Just wish there could be a coop mode.....

Hopefully we will keep the unlock we win before the release, but if it is necessary for the development to nullify it.. sure... that is what Betas and Alphas are for. Anyone NOT knowing that should get a reality check.

I went onto the servers last night around 22:30 ish ...............they were empty ...

As a squad we still fly il-2 1946 online campaigns , i was hoping BoS would replace il-2

.....is there light at the end of the tunnel . Hope so , graphics are stunning .

I shall not be negative .

Server mission parameters should bypass unlock status, PERIOD.

Before last week?  80+

Now?  ~25 peak for Europe, ~5 peak for US.

Even so, where are all the other founders? They can't possibly play SP all the time, right?

Personally I do not fly at all.

On the one side I don't feel like using gimped planes in terms of the options I have, on the other hand I can't be arsed to unlock everything now and then once more after release.

The server situation is another problem. Air quake is boring as hell and Syndicate is always full (or crashed).

yeah at least people will be more skilled on mp

No, they won't  SP does virtually nothing to prepare you for flying MP.  If anything, you pick up bad habits and get worse.

Yes playing single-player does create bad habits for when you arrive in multiplayer. That being said, people have to start somewhere. Single player is a integral part of the game. I think some are having misconceptions that people are trying to ruin the SP experience because they want the focus to be all on multiplayer. This is not the case, people are unhappy with some of the mechanics and restrictions, that's all.

Yes before SP only players are easy prey on mp servers.

I have only seen a max of 35 players on one server. The rest had zero players. I can't even get into that server for some reason?

Can someone who is aware about current situation regarding unlocks answer the questions below:

1. No experience is gathered from flying MP? Yes/No

2. Unlocks gained during alpha will be reset when game is released? Yes/No

I apologize, I haven't read all messages on this forum regarding last version of the game and I haven't installed the latest version due to confusion regarding unlocks. If they are here to stay for MP as well, without ability to gain them there, then I will try to keep the time wasted for unlocking on minimum and do it only once.

I hope you will be back with a Server (with some crowd founding) after this unlock "problem" is solved.
