JtD Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Summarizing, might be useful input for the devs, who are still making mistakes about it: Rüstzustände (based on Prien/Rodeike): Bf 109F-4 - standard Bf 109 F-4 day fighter Bf 109F-4/R-1 - day fighter with additional wiring in the wing allowing (but not necessitating) wing guns Bf 109F-4/R-2 - photo recon version with RB20/30 camera Bf 109F-4/R-3 - photo recon version with RB50/30 camera Bf 109F-4/R-4 - photo recon version with RB75/30 camera These Rüstzustände are a permanent part of the aircrafts equipment and designation. Rüstsätze (based on Ersatzteilliste 109F-4, though designated Rüstzustand there): R I: bomb rack for an 500 kg bomb R II: bomb rack for 4x50 (70) kg bombs R III: drop tank R IV: bomb rack for SD2 bombs R VII: gondola weapons (2xMG151 or MG151/20, could only be mounted on R-1 aircraft) Rüstsätze are not part of the aircrafts designation and could be installed and removed as desired. Now Messerschmitt used all sorts of words and both Arabic and Roman numbers for designation purposes during the war, but later in the war they followed the nomenclature I'm using here to avoid the confusion they had caused earlier - Rüstzustand for anything hardwired, with Arabic numbers, and Rüstsatz for the various optional equipments with Roman numbers. Since this is the clearest way to designate the aircraft and their loadouts, I'd suggest the devs go with the late war designations. Otherwise it'll be a mess. Or they just skip the Rüstsatz number and go with whatever loadout it was. There's no difference in designation between 1x250 and 1x500, or 4x50 and 4x70, or 2xMG151 and MG151/20 anyway. Not to mention there were lots of bombs and fuse types, all of which make a difference, but share the same designation.
Guest VDM Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 (edited) In the Handbook for the Bf 109 G-1 you find the aiming sheet for the F-1/R-1 (Gondola MG) and G-1 to G-4 with R-6 (Gondola MG). The gondola and engine mounted MG can be either MG 151 or MG 151/20 for F and G-series (also written in the manual). Source: "Bf 109 G-1 Flugzeughandbuch, Teil 8A Schusswaffenanlage" [D.(Luft) T.2109 G-1 Teil 8A, Heft 1; printed July 1943] The fuel/bomb racks doesn't have a Rüstsatz number. For the bomb racks only the /B were added as at the E-series. Thoose Rüstsatz numbers were introduced with the G-series. This sheet says nothing. They must have already more to say that there R-1 and was not R-7(for F-4). Moreover, airplane manual is not the last instance. Do you also have all cover sheets to all manuals? If so, then you yourselves are able see how much sometimes there everything was changed. Edited November 4, 2013 by VDM
Guest VDM Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 As an example I will say you, that in G-2/4/6 in 1943, no more signal horn for landing flaps any more was inserted, although in manual it is there. But you will read the signal horn is there and say I "lie" ...or?

The signal horn for delivered landing flaps did not become in 1943, but from August, 1942 no more built-in (should serve as an example). *Find the same cover sheet about R-1 and then we further talk.
