I wanted to leave a link which includes a video of the two pilots from this story, A Higher Call.  It truly falls under the personalities section of our forum with a closer look at the men who flew on both sides, but specifically the Luftwaffe..  If you read the book you will not be sorry.  It's on my top 5 now, and I rate it as the "Forgotten Soldier" of the Air War.  I reposted it, because my previous post had a heading which was not correct.....Of interest to me was Franz Stigler, the pilot in this video was the flight instructor for Barkhorn, who really wasn't that good of a pilot.  Stigler signed off for him anyway, and the rest is history.  Stigler himself went on to fly for the famous JV44 group with Galland and the gang....Experten....

I first heard about this in the 90s Neun. CHBC or BCTV did a feature news - short on the two of them. I still have the VHS tape and I'm going to get it put on a disk.  :salute:
