Hey everyone, so I have been flying with a cheap Logitech twist stick and its time to upgrade. I am thinking about the X55 HOTAS and noticed that its a twist stick but also that Saitek sells rudder pedals separately... If I go the x55 should I just use the twist stick or also buy rudder pedals? Also another thing I noted was that I was interested in the Thrustmaster Warthog but it has no z access making it a very expensive buy when you factor in a set of pedals as well.

So opinions?

I have just the stick from the Thrustmaster warthog and I couldn't be happier with it, Its the best stick I've ever used. Rudder pedals are a must for me, I use my trusty 9 year old CH pro pedals and they cant be beat for the price $95 on amazon and the build quality is better than saitek I think this is made clear by the fact that I have used these pedals almost daily for 9 years.

YES!!!!  They are hard to get used to at first but the difference between a twist stick and rudder pedals is way less wrist fatigue and a much more immerse experience and you can fine tune your flying a lot better as the range is so much wider.  Also toe brakes for your plane is a very nice feature especially when taxiing.  Strongly consider the pro's and con's of the rudder pedals that you are looking at.  Read a TON of reviews on them before you make your decision.  After a few months of homework I opted for Slaw Device rudder pedals because they won't break down like cheaper plastic ones as the Slaw Device are made of metal and have non contacting magnetic sensors.  http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3887591/Slaw_Device_109_Pedals This will help you to understand what these rudder pedal are all about.  Purchasing is a little weird since you have to do a bank transfer to a bank in Poland but its legit, I did it and I have amazing pedals out of it.  The Saitek rudder pedals from what I have read over and over and over are very high maintenance if you want them to survive.  They get full of dust and get sticky, they are light so they slide around on the floor a lot and to top everything off I've heard many stories of them breaking and needing to be replaced.  As I mentioned do your homework on every set of pedals that you look at and you will understand which way is best to go for you.   The Slaw Device pedals are not exactly what I would call cheap, they cost as much as my Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog but in my opinion its money well spent!

Couldn't live without them.

Once you get used to them and make the adjustments to your game to get them feeling smooth there's really no substitute. I'd never go back to twisty stick steering.

I would buy set from CH - joystick, throttle, pedals fi u want quality build and ergonomics not some chinese crap who breaks down in a month.
