Lafrules Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 pardon my ignorance as I am relatively new to flight sims but i fail to see the purpose of the siren when dive bombing. The only thing I could see is to advice other pilot around that there is a plane diving straight down so they make sure they are not in the way. cheers
3instein Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 (edited) As it was used it the real version of the plane,if they left it out can you imagine the backlash. It all adds to the immersion man, which we all want eh? IRL,it had no benefit whatsoever apart from psychological scare tactics. Mick. Edited September 28, 2014 by 3instein 2
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 IRL,it had no benefit whatsoever apart from psychological scare tactics. Mick. "Only" is a wrong term actually. The early Stukas were largely deployed with sirens to terrify the enemy forces. Remeber soldier's moral is just an as improtant factor on the battlefield as it's gear and weapon The Stukas dealt with both at the same time. The concept was already trained with the Hs 123 during the spanish civil war. It's engine developed a terrible noise easily mistaken for machine gun fire at vcertain RPMs, which is why some of them stayed in the air after running out of ammo to still terrify the ground troops. In early war when the Blitzkrieg went across Poland and France the Stuka's played an important role at demoralizing the retreating enemy forces. The sound of the siren quickly teached anybody fear of the precise dive attacks and once heared it nearly became as threatening to the soldiers and civillians as the payload itself. It's reasons for it being ingame are simple: A, imersion and B, realism. Everybody thinking of Stukas has the terrific sound of the sirens popping up and want to try it. I love the sirens and I'm glad they're so accurately modeled ingame
malcheus Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Imagine sitting in the drivers seat of a tank, and only seeing an arc of 20 degrees in front of you, let alone anything above you. Then you hear several stuka sirens coming from god knows where. This means your life can be over any second. Even if the stuka's are a mile away aiming for something else, you will be scared shitless. That's the use of the siren.
1CGS LukeFF Posted September 28, 2014 1CGS Posted September 28, 2014 I did some divebombing runs with the Stuka last night for the first time in a long while, and I have to say I'm very impressed with the audio of the siren.

IRL,it had no benefit whatsoever apart from psychological scare tactics. Mick. Total immersion with the siren. I can't wait to feel immersed in my XP points that stuka pilots probably had to deal with in order to get them unlocked on their planes. Ahhh history. Lol. But seriously, I thought the sirens where not used as much as portrayed in movies, games, etc.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 But seriously, I thought the sirens where not used as much as portrayed in movies, games, etc. Yes and no. As I said they were heavily used in early war days up to the eastern campaing. When the germans realized the soviets had a more prepared airforce in 1942 and the psychological effect was less effective against the attacking russuian troops they removed them on the field. This mainly accounts to the D and G variants, although some pilots still flew them with sirens.

I also read how they were not used in the BoB especially on shipping.
Y-29.Silky Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Really wish it wasn't only client side to hear it
[TWB]80hd Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 The Stuka siren in BoS needs a serious testosterone shot.
vonPilsner Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I love the dive siren, very immersive!!!
150GCT_Veltro Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) Very immersive and really great sound but only for the clients. The other players (gunner inlcuded), as said above, doesn't hear it all and this limitation is really an immersion killer for the online games. Edited November 20, 2014 by 150GCT_Veltro
Tyberan Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Sirens sound way off to me. I think that is because you hear it from the cockpit rather then from an observers point of view with the doppler effect. I fly RC aircraft and one of the members of our club there made a 3D printed version of the Jericho siren mounted on an electric ( to be used in a large scale Stuka). Although not as the same pitch as in the movies it was definitely more like what you hear in the game.
Jaeger55 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Well, that kinda makes sense. I will add this to the MOD wish list.
6./ZG26_Gielow Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 (edited) The Stuka siren in BoS needs a serious testosterone shot. Totally agree!!!, They also need to fix the sound for others players in game who cannot hear it. Edited November 20, 2014 by JG62Gielow
avlSteve Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I mapped the siren and speed brake to the same control. I've not forgotten to retract my speed brake after a dive since. 2
