SOLIDKREATE Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) Hey guys I just wanted to show you my take on the Luftwaffe markings If I had been the policy maker. I have another but I don't think I should post it because it has the "Valknut" in place of the Hakenkruez. In the USA it is considered a racist symbol as I just found out 10min ago. Anyways maybe soem of you can post your idea of markings or even unit emblem redesigns how you'd make them. Edited August 22, 2013 by [9./JG54]SPEKTRE
Lord_Haw-Haw Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 You could also use the markings from Tomania....
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Hey guys I just wanted to show you my take on the Luftwaffe markings If I had been the policy maker. These are good looking markings, no doubt. They have a more organic feel to them than the WWII angular Balkenkreuz. I think on the other hand the straight lines cross has a utilitarian aggressiveness that fit very well with German Art Nouveau inspired aesthetics.
Foobar Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 I hope you all know that the angular Balkenkreuz wasn't invented by 33-45 Germany or even used by them first. It came up at the end of WW1 first.

kestrel79 Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 That top left one looks the best. I too love the german wing symbols. My fav real ones were the all white late war ones, with just the outline in white. Any idea why they made the switch in real life? Early war they had the black in the middle of the white correct?

Still, they fit very well with the image the Germans were projecting in WW II, which is why they used it I suppose.

Any idea why they made the switch in real life? Early war they had the black in the middle of the white correct? Most likely due to scarcity of certain paints. The paint used on all planes was a mixture of a lot of compounds. I have a huge 275pg book about just this subject. The other reason may just be a change of style or simplicity of manufacturing. You don't want to waste time spraying or brushing layer after layer of paint when it's just asthetics. I love the all white crosses too on the later G and K series 109's.
