A quick question about progressing in the campaign

Hi,

Haven't lurked the forum much except for Friday updates, so apologies if this is already common knowledge.

But reading some rumors over at simhq and the 'what we know so far' post I'd like to know what this means in more details:

  • New campaign phases will be unlocked by completing mission objectives. (LOFT)

To me personally in order to have any immersion in a campaign: you fly, fight and most of all try to survive. If you survive the war will go on and next mission will be ahead of you unless you specifically want to re-fly.

Now what I read that the statement above means is that I will end up grinding some mission over and over again to "kill the 4 bombers before they drop their ordnance", or "bomb at least 3 tanks before they reach bridge A". Which for me would be a disaster.. and honestly it's hard to imagine much of the sim crowds enjoying such a thing.

But perhaps you can remove my concerns or if not try to explain why it's a good thing to have non-realistic aspects of forced-mission-goal-success?

Thanks!

Right now we don't know what these "mission objectives" will be.

They could be as simple as "survive the mission and don't get captured" or in the scope of an entire camoaign phase: "complete X number of missions successfully".

In Rise of Flight, for example, it's not too hard to succeed in a mission.

We already have voiced our concerns about having objectives like "kill 4 bombers", "protect object X at all cost" and so on, so I'm certain the devs know these concerns and will take them into consideration.

At the moment we'll just have to wait for more information on that...

Thanks.. and devs: I'd guess that shouldn't be too hard to confirm either way in tomorrows update :)

Be good to see something similar to Red Baron 2 with the dynamic mission style Campaign, if you fail the mission whether its getting caprtured, shot down, KIA.. you can refly it or carry on (depending on whether you made it back or not) and the outcome of the campaign should reflect the way you play not some linear mission's that play the same over and over each time you start a new Campaign that's get repetitive and abit boring after awhile.

Right, we do know about your concerns (and thank you for telling them aloud so we're not in a blind search) and they will be taken into consideration.

Please, post your question in the "questions to the devs" thread, and I'll do what I can to get you an example of a short mission scenario.

Has there been an answer from the developers about this yet?

Right above your post is the current answer.
