Imur6 Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) Actually, I like dog fight like.. in the movie. I mean, enemy plane moving around in my gun sight, and gun gun gun... I've experienced this manner of dog fighting in the War thunder. But in the BOS, it's not exactly what I had in mind. It's very difficult to put it in my gun sight. Once it passed by my cockpit, it is hard to see it again. If I can see enemy plane by accident, it passed by plane like a flash. and I have to find it again...I can't even get close to enemy plane. it's not exciting but tedious labor. Is this happened to real dog fight as well? or... this is simply because of my poor skill? Edited September 22, 2014 by Imur6
SR-F_Winger Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) This kind of dogfighting IS happening. I witness this kind actually quite often. Even on the expert server. Actually this kind of fight is not very efficient. Lots of ammo spent for just one kill (if at all if you have a very well evading opponent). What makes more sense and therefor should be much more common practice is to just surprise the enemy and make him burn before he even notices hes getting attacked. This is the way the highest scoring ace in WWII history made his kills (Erich Hartmann). There were also other kind of fighters (the turnfighters) in real WWII. Some of them very successful but this kind of fighter lived a much more dangerous live than the folks that fought like Erich Hartmann. What you can do to keep your enemy in sights is to get a track IR headtracker (Freetrack and facetracknoIR are cheaper alternatives). MUCH easier to keep track of your target once you passed him. unreasonable Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 What you see in BoS is much closer to reality than what you see in movies or in casual flight games. If you are not using TrackIR or similar, keeping the enemy in view will be very hard, so that would be the first step to improving your results. After that it comes down to knowledge of your aircraft's capabilities and lots of practice. When you do start getting into firing positions and making the shot it is much more satisfying than in an easier game: or at least that is what us "hard core" flight-sim types feel!
Finkeren Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I have to agree with Winger. There's in fact too much of what you ask for going on at the moment. Especially Soviet pilots in Yak-1s are having a field day with low level turn fights, where German pilots happily throw their energy advantage away in favor of quick action.
