Not only can I not wait for the Dev's take on the DK2 but I'm on tenterhooks watching out for user feedback of the Crescent bay prototype, which might be quite close to the quality of the release candidate.

I know some people might be suspect about the integrated audio (this can be removed so that users can use their own headphones) I think it's a positive, they're talking seriously about audio, rather than it just being a bolt on, and having audio designed for specific hardware can ensure everyone has the optimal experience that game developers intend rather than it falling through the cracks. Even if players revert to their own cans then at least they have a standard to compare them too.

Talking of audio, I'd prefer closed cup ear pieces rather than those shown, this had me thinking about whether Oculus might/should go down the graphics card route and provide a base reference that other companies then flesh out with their own design. For example a different style of earphone or straps or even different style helmets instead of just straps, a combat helmet for the first person shooters amongst us or a flight style helmet for the simmers amongst us etc etc.

I was watching a video of race room being played with OR. One of the things that caught my ear was the person reviewing it mentioning an issue with the hands in game. Since the hand/wheel animation only moved about 90 degrees, this reviewer said it made the game seem strange when in cockpit view. He also mentioned that other racing titles have the same problem.

It seems that the realism with vr can lead to a disconnected feeling if you look down and don't see a body. I wonder if OR will pretty much require having a pilot added to the cockpit.

For certain:

"Oculus keeps making it better, but properly running a game in stereoscope, at a high resolution, at 90Hz, is going to demand a hell of a PC."

The big thing I wonder about with Oculus is how it's possible for the users eye to focus on a screen that close. For anyone over about 40 that's going to be really difficult or straining.

Regarding VR, I will just wait to see how many blind people we will have in the coming years....

Not even talking of neck pain induced by the 1.1 ratio of mouvment between head and virtual head....

But yes : it look promising. But if like me, you spend several hours a day playing , having a screen at 2cm of your eyes is a pretty bad idea :)

I've wondered about that, if I'm running great now with my 2600k and gtx580 how would an occulus style system run? Does it require more power to run?

I think it said you need to run 8K res at 2x screens at 90hz to get a good performance.

I was wondering the same thing. I found this.

From the link above:  "With the Oculus Rift, your eyes are actually focused and converged in the distance at all times."

It's not the stereoscopic nature, it simply as you get older your eyes can't focus on close objects.

I wonder if the lenses in the device can correct for this?

Yes, I think the lenses make the necessary corrections so your eyes are focused as if they were looking in the distance.

Their demos were running on a sole GTX980 with Crescent Bay

I am in my 40's and have no problem with the rift at all, I can wear it all day and have no eye strain whatsoever, the lenses are designed to focus the eyes to infinity which means they are completely relaxed, you focus on objects in the display exactly the same way as you do in real life, yes my eyesight is still perfect but the idea is that the rift simply recreates real vision.

This bothers me even more: "I still felt the telltale hints of motion sickness after a few minutes"

Checking six means to turn the head farer and faster than it is needed in most other games.

what a load of BS, checking your six means turning your head just as you would in real life, the fact that you can get a full rear view in TIR by simply turning your head slightly is totally unrealistic.

That's encouraging!

I'm 51 and use reading glasses, can use Rift for hours without any problem what so ever and without glasses. Only thing should be I can't smoke / drink coffee while wearing Rift ;)

That sounds good. Yeah I guess it's not like having a pair of iPhones strapped to your head. It has lenses.

What a load of BS. I was not even talking about realism, nor did I talk about TiR. Are you able to read ?

I was talking about motion sickness. What has your "answer" to do with it ? Why do you quote me, if you talk about something else ? You seem to be the forum troll.

I'm pretty sure what he meant was something along the lines of you don't get motion sickness looking around in real life.

I'm a bit concerned about the names they keep giving to their prototypes, "Crystal Cove", "Crescent Bay", I just hope they manage to circumnavigate Calamity Cape.

But in order to avoid Calamity Cape, you have to go through the Cannibal Canal! (And then you end up in a Castaway Casserole.)

Black Devil - calm down. Don't be so snippy.

Also, you mean "quiet". I wouldn't have mentioned that but I'm sure someone else was just about to.

Let's all leave the sniping behind us, shall we?

Lovely. So glad you all agreed.

Maybe they'll let you have a virtual cigarette or coffee, and it'll just feel real...
