unreasonable Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Not sure if this has been addressed elsewhere, cannot find using search, but there is something odd about the default pilot head position in the La5. When you look at the plane from outside view, the pilot's eyeline is below the level of the horizontal side canopy bracers. (As is true in the Lagg 3). But in the cockpit, the view is above (or obscured by) the bracers, as though the pilot had eyes on stalks on the top of his head. If you try to lower the default view position to the same positions as in the Lagg-3 to improve visibility the gunsight becomes unusable as it seems to be mounted higher than in the Lagg. Keeping the canopy open all the time helps with visibility but gets very cold! I would add screenshots to show the problem but the internet is all fubar in S.E. Asia right now due to sharks eating the cable or something. So is this a real feature of the La5 or a 3d design fault in BoS?
Finkeren Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 Happened when they changed the gunsight placement to its historical (but rather impractical) position a few updates back. As much as it sucks, it's actually historically correct. La-5 did complain about having to either press their heads hard against the canopy or simply fly with the canopy open (as many did for other reasons as well) if they wanted to aim their guns. The reason the head position isn't reflected in the external model is propably because it would create issues with the pilots head clipping the canopy all the time. The only practical solution is propably to set a new default head position that's lower and then have a snap view set for the gunsight.
unreasonable Posted September 20, 2014 Author Posted September 20, 2014 Ah - I appreciate the info. Open canopy for me then, I find snap views disorientating. (And I know it should be "weird" - but it is urly here and I hav not had my kofee yet).
indiaciki Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 In the yak-1 you have to lower your position to see the compass...
unreasonable Posted September 20, 2014 Author Posted September 20, 2014 It is true that when you mount a yak you can get into some very strange positions....
