111 engine problems

First off its not a bug or fault within the game. Its me, I'm just not the best pilot around.

I did a search on the subject but couldn't find anything.

The He-111 was obviously not made for the cold condition it operated in over Stalingrad, so I guess it is historically close to what the real bird was.

I have done a few missions in the He-111 flying "long" distance bomb-runs just for fun, mostly parked. One time I even started with engines cold, it took forever to warm up.

Anyway, my problem is when returning. When all the heavy bombs is gone and less fuel on board the plane is very light, meaning I have to go full/very close to idle to descend. From 2500 meter it takes a while resulting in very cold engines on final. The oil stay little warmer than water. So if I have to go around for some reason (like bad piloting) I often damage the engines and I see black smoke.

Any tips and tricks out there?

Another thing I noticed because I like to start with plane at parking (warmed up engines). It looks like the artificial horizon is not warmed up because it is very slow. When turning in the air it looks like cold syrup, it lags behind and is very slow to react to the plane movement.

close both your oil and water radiators when descending  :) . do the same to warm up your engine faster

Also on Aggressive descents I will put in full slip in the opposite direction of the turn. Also if you want to keep it slow you can drop the gear (if the airflow is modeled?)

yeah you should generally always close the radiators of any aircraft while descending, even in warm climates. For example (I know slightly different)  engines that use carburetors will have a heater that diverts hot gas from the exhaust to stop the carb from freezing in a descent.

Yes ascending from 2,5 km isn't easy even with smaller aircrafts, it is supposed to take time. As said slow your plane down and put it into a slip keeping ~ 200km/h while heading straight. Additionally you can deploy flaps, as they largely increase drag once fully deployed. Keep your IAS low to get a max descend over a certain distance, otherwise the effect will be lower.

During landing close cowling and oil flaps and increase your RPM to about 2400, which should keep the engine warm. Just don't overrev it.

The artificial horizon is bugged atm, if you start on runway in SP it works without issues while chosing parking psotition seems to cause this bug. In reality those are filled with some fluid to smooth the movement of the gauge, so it should move normaly or not all all (if it's frozen).

Easy it's not for sure. The radiator doors I close ofcorse. Thanks for the reply guys. I guess one way is to descend in steps. Keeping high revs I going to try, never thought of that.

Sorry for late reply. Thanks for input. Now I going to install latest campaign update.... :)
