Thanks Furbs I'm glad you liked it. If you can believe it that 109 skin is actually 12 years old! One of my favorites.

You hit, you score!

Seriously, after seeing the LaGG3 in the livestream, I really can't wait to see all the effects!

When we get right down to the core of air combat it's all about the effects of destruction. I hope BoS makes a real meal of it. :)

I agree Siggi, nothing to me gets me going as much as seeing shells on target, one thing ive always thought IL2 and CLOD and every other WW2 sim for that matter did not do well was the violence of hits that you see in gun cam footage.

I thought CloD was pretty good with the MG sparkler effect. Bits coming off, can't remember much of that other than an entire cowling. Wheels dropping were superb.

Il2 did generic shapes coming off, which I suppose was good for the time and tech. To be fully realistic you'd need actual bits of the 3D model detatching, which CloD did with the major components. Did it model generic bits of 'chaff' too?

Really looking forward to seeing what the BoS guys do with this incredibly important aspect of the sim. :)

Yes I've watch many of those news reels Ricky. I like the part where they tow the F4, I actually have that part uploaded on my channel.  :salute:

One thing im hoping for is the fire and smoke affect to not be just the one "on fire" and "smoking" affect...one thing you notice in gun cam footage is fire does not just start and carry on with the same intensity.

Here is some of the affects of hits ive seen in guncam footage... (a lot of it watched here ... http://www.criticalpast.com/products/search/?sort_order=asc&q=gun%20camera&decadeyear=1940)

Hit flashes, puffs of smoke from hits but no fire and no smoke trail.

Hits flashes small bits falling off, no smoke, no fire.

Small puffs of smoke from hits but no flashes, no smoke or fire.

Hit flashes with smoke puffs, large parts coming off, no smoke trail or fire.

Hits with smoke and flashes, large puff of fire that stops, then heavy smoke trail.

Hits with flashes and puffs then heavy smoke trail and but no fire.

Hits then violent explosion...(rare but did happen)

hits with puff of fire that carries on with heavy smoke trail.

the list goes on and on.

Im not saying BOS could and should have all these affects of course, but i would like to see a large variation of hit affects on aircraft if the dev team possibly can do it in the time they have.

Going to start a topic for affects.

All I can tell now for sure is that hits make holes. I've seen holes, they are lovely. Hit effects are WIP as Albert said

Thank for the answer.

The cannon eye candy effects on the fuselage are really important for the virtual pilot. The video posted above is a great example.

Somehow i think the 777 team have not only seen these videos, but probably know them so well they refer to them by their serial numbers.

But you are right of course, the damage is the meat here. One effect that I felt was lacking in IL2, but which i have seen done nicely in RoF, is the planes going "limp", an effect you can see in some guncam footage. It is hard to explain, but it is an intensely immersive effect, and something which I hope to see in BoS.
