spirit Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) Hi all, I don't know if it's only me, but I find taxiing in the FW190 without fine control over the wheel brakes ridiculously difficult. A simple button won't do, that's why I came up with the following. This may be well known or I'm doing it completely wrong, but it still works great with my T16000M, so I am very proud and wanted to let you know. In the game settings, assign both wheel brakes to the joystick's Z Axis (right one inverted). Then I create a profile in the configuration file that triggers a wheel brake if I twist the stick beyond a certain threshold, so that I can still use my rudder at take off without hitting the brakes immediately. To make testing easier, I made a small spreadsheet to calculate the profiles (see attached). I save the profiles in the configuration file current.map, which the game tries to overwrite at each start, so I had to make it read only. The game always complains about it, but nevermind. Cheers Edit - The forum won't let me upload a Libre Office spreadsheet, so here it is: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6Xb15PEaFKCcXJNX1pSZW5hTUE/edit?usp=sharing Edited September 16, 2014 by SR-spirit
Weegie Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 That's a nice idea. I have no clue how to do that with the config but I can see the logic and how it works. It sucks that the game won't let you use an axis for both left and right wheel brakes, similar to say pilot head movement
[JG2]Surf Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I used toe brakes exclusively to taxi German aircraft. I don't touch my stick until nearing rotation speed.
spirit Posted September 22, 2014 Author Posted September 22, 2014 Yes, and you probably have real pedals available for that. The only thing that annoys me now is that whenever I want to modify any settings in the game. I'll have to make the file current.map writeable. Then the joystick profiles will be erased on startup, so I'll have to exit the game after my modification again to insert the profiles and make the file write only. Does anyone know of an alternative to this elegant process? Where does the game actually get the default profiles? The file default.map appears to be ignored.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) Used that trick a long time ago when I still had twist axis only...a good old times! Still not better than pedals obviously but it's a nice workaround. Too bad sth like this isn't possible with current ingame settings, hope they'll rework it for more freedom in future (without encouraging exploitation). Edited September 22, 2014 by [Jg26]5tuka
