nicka117 Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Somewhat related to my other post about the sidewinder, are any of you guys using a bass shaker in flight sims? Are there enough low frequency sounds to create much of an effect?
Scott_Steiner Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I have a ButtKicker Gamer 2, it is very nice if a game supports it well.. and by support I mean it has good bassy sounds going to the subwoofer channel. Rise of Flight seems to have a lot of sounds going to a lot of channels, a big thing on the sub channel was the wind noise, which I guess can be immersive if you like to think your crate is getting rattled in the wind, I was looking for more dramtic guns, flak and engine noise though. I think I should run a splitter and route all channels (not just the sub and central channel) into the buttkicker, as it would just pick up everything below a certain frequency that has a low sound. I expect IL-2 to be the same with shakers (sorry I haven't really tried it yet), some good stuff going on but not as good as some other games, worth buying one just for IL-2 BOS? I dunno.. Worth it for my entire game library? I think so. Works great in a lot of first person shooters as you rattle off your guns with not a lot of other noises mudding up the sound stage.

Sounds like you aren't using any bass management. I don't think BOS and ROF use a dedicated LFE channel so you will not get much effect from the SUB channel unless you direct the low frequencies from the other full range channels. I haven't got a buttkicker/bass shaker but this is how you get bass in the sub from 2.0 recordings. You can enable it in whatever decoder you use, in your soundcard software if you have any or in windows sound options.
oneeyeddog Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Like Scott Steiner i also have a ButtHicker Gamer 2, attached to the pedestal on my PC chair. If flight sims are your hobby and you already have a good joystick, rudder pedals and TIR, get one as it definitely adds to the experience/emersion. I feel the rumble of the engine and bumps on the runway. The bumping even changes if you drift off the runway on TO. In RoF (not so in BoS yet) when a flak burst went off near my AC WHAM!, its startling. To really get the most out of it I got a Sound Blaster card and have spent some time fiddling with the equalizer, bass crossover etc as there are no hard and fast settings and these settings are different for each sim.
nicka117 Posted September 16, 2014 Author Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) Thanks all! I just wish there was soemthing like Simvibe for flight sims. Simvibe is a software program for racing games that takes all the physics data and translates it into low frequency signals so the tranducers can vibrate. It's not just the bass sounds from the audio files, it's anything you want to tune it for so that it works as a true force feedback device. Maybe Simvibe will branch out into flight sims someday. EDIT: Hmm, I just looked at the site and they do support x-plane. Maybe they would be open to supporting BOS... http://simxperience.com/Products/Software/SimCommander3/SimCommanderSupportedSimulationGames.aspx Edited September 16, 2014 by nicka117
SCG_Tzigy Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 have TWO buttkickers attached to my flight playseat; its awesome!!!!
Tom25briklebritt Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 How does it work? When using a 5.1 system... Do u have to unplug the subwoofer - channel at the sound card and plug the amlifier into the sound card?

Do u have to unplug the subwoofer - channel at the sound card and plug the amlifier into the sound card? The BK2 came with a 'y' splitter that I plug into the subwoofer output jack on my soundcard. One leg of the "y' goes to the BK2 amp and the other leg goes to the subwoofer.
