The tires commonly used on those "dragsters" (Hoosier brand, I believe.) have a very interesting, tacky, soft rubber texture for that purpose. I have a friend that drives through a set of them each summer... He likes hotrodding quite a bit.

I really like Gary Wolkwitz's Dart. The deep red with flames
