What will the Dev's do After they have finished IL2 Battle Of Stalingrad?

The main reason I don't like the Pacific Theatre is - just too much water . Just like now it's all snow everywhere. Well in the PT it would be a map of pure ocean with a few little islands .

Which again, as with others, tells me you haven't learned much at the PTO as a whole - sometimes it's the way you describe, often it wasn't depending on where

the fighting was and what campaign you're talking about.

...what will 777 And 1C Do after they have made Stalingrad?,...

Lol

I would like Pacific personally, Battle of Guadalcanal or Iwo Jima.

I don't think there was much air combat involved at Iwo Jima was there? Maybe some close air support but certainly no massive carrier battles. I'd like some PTO action too but I doubt we'll see that for a while.

they will give me one of these!

I also would love to see the Pacific theater done as well, but I just don't see it happening any time soon. So my hopes are more set on Mediterranean/North Africa (after more eastern front content of course)

I'd love to see the Pacific done (either by 1C or ED), but the technical challenge of presenting real carrier ops would be... extreme.  They could just do New Guinea / Port Moresby, which had one of the best collection of Japanese aces assembled at one time against a variety of US and Australian planes, but I'd think the audience would be disappointed if a PT game didn't include carrier ops.

Other than seriously improved graphics, which we have, what would have to be significantly better than Il2? I loved Zekes vs Wildcats server back in the day. Rumor is PTO is Jason's favorite. So, I think it is a real possibility relatively early in the development. I continue to believe, however, Stalingrad summer and Kuban, followed by MTO, are on the immediate horizon.

Didn't play the old IL-2 much by now but apart from graphics I think ithere's a a great difference in terms of FMs, accustics and the overall feeling of flight. Imagine doing carrier landings with BoS kind of difficulty and you'll surely agree it's a fun challenge to look forward to! :)

Other than that there are still very neat pacific planes that haven't been modeled before in any sim (Helldiver, Devastator, B6N Tenzan, ect). BoS might be the first to make use of them with great level of detail and providing a much better feeling and enthusiasm of this theatre.

I'll surely take what they come up with even if it's "just" another eastern front scenario. I'm just hoping planes won't be too stricly bound to those as well (if they served on numerous fronts such as the 190).

You miss my point. What I meant is; BOS does so much very well and the PTO was pretty darn good in the original. Combining the two could be pretty awesome. High res water, high res ships (maybe the taxi starts could be rising on an elevator and moving into position?) with modern physics. Bomber and torpedo missions would be a heavy draw with the "mud movers" with such big juicy targets. What wouldn't there be to love?

I am very much in favor of the Pacific endeavor if it should come to pass.

What will devs do? They will pack all the dollars into big bags and head for tax heaven (I would avoid Cayman Islands due to hurricanes)

I dislike Pacific Theatre. Mostly because I don't like to fly Japanese nor US/UK aircrafts. A western or North African Theatre would be nice. Or even one Fall Weiß. But I guess the last one woulldn't be playable due balance restrictions. :D

Well, you will still have BOS, likely Kuban, and probably the Med before we get PTO. So, I think you'll be OK.

Just out of curiousity, does the BoS developers have access to the Cliffs of Dover aircraft set? I am wondering because one is 1C Maddox I believe, and the other is 1C Maddox and 777 Studios. If this is the case, they would already have several additional models to choose from for their next theater of operations.

I was under the impression they were merged, hence the 1C777 studios.

1C Game Studios and 777 Studios formed a partnership to create BoS under the name of 1C Game Studios (1CGS) and yes, as a result they do have access to the models from CloD and its aborted successor. Some of those models have been integrated into BoS.

You were not the only one.  My squad would go crazy over the PTO.  Seating in an BOS Hellcat or A6M5, wow that would be awesome.

Pacific? naa the old Il2 had this and wasn´t it considered a flop?

I tried to avoid it and online wars never really took the pacific as a theatre.

Lets stay in the east first, much easier to make. Lets say Kuban or Crimea smith 42-44ish.

They´d already have the 109s and the stukas and even He111s(different Mods can't be that hard) And they have La5 and Yak, La5f or Fn isn't much different from the outside so it can be made pretty fast and so the devs would have to make a new map(maybe outsource it) and concentrate on maybe 1-2 new airplanes for each side, lets say 2:2 i.e. Ju88 and Hs129/Bf110 and La5f and yak9? New Il2 variants are not considered "new planes"

Makes more sense cause they have to stay economic ;)

edit: Also if ju88 and Hs129, the reds would finally have equal fighter role planes and germany could do better Ground Operations

Kuban would probably the best. They could introduce a few lend lease planes, which could then also be used in a Mediterranean/North-Africa expansion.

PTO would be too big of a jump imho, but i would like to see it done eventually in the future.

You are kidding right? The "Old IL2" had/has a brilliant Pacific campaign....actually many of them, from dynmaic, to static historic.

PTO actually had quite a following. Many nights when I was an admin/owner at Warbirds of Prey people had to wait to even join the server there were so many people there. I'm sure it isn't as popular in Europe, but it is very popular in the States, and I'd wager in the Far East as well.

i am from central europe, and i would celebrate a pacific scenario (Guadalcanal !) like nothing else

I would really like to see the Western Front, especially leading up to D-Day and just after when the allies were doing long run bombing into Germany with B17s/B21s and the Mustang came up against the 109s.

I would too love a pacific addon. Although Pacific Fighters didn't deliver fully to my expectations, the mods really made it rise a bit and enrich the theatre of war i old IL2.

However carrier operations would be a must...what i found most enjoyable in that particular set of war was that the actual excitement wasn't just the dofighting or the attacking... If you survived the mission ypu hade two additional challenges in front of you 1) navigational challenge; u have to find your bearings back to the task force..and 2) catch that cable on a rolling carrier deck..maybe with a damaged plane..

A map with just water could be one of the new maps.....Santa Cruz..and maybe then as mentioned Guadal Canal.

This community really deserves a decent pacific sim.... It hasn't really been done... Not since the old Microsoft one which was quite ok back the .... But then again we have to deal with the cost of US planes... Remember the IL 2 Pacific Fighter debacle with... Was it Grumman?

Amen. Also there are stll numerous interesting pacific planes not being made use of by any sim so far (apart from modding maybe). I'm very fascinated by the Curtiss Helldiver and imagine it to be great fun to fly in BoS quality just like the classic TBF, Dauntless and maybe Corsair. Of course japanese also have some nice machines to look ahead to, though I just don't like Zeros. Ki-61 would be pretty fantastic on the other hand :)

Ki61 is great, but the zero is a challenge ...well not to fly but to survive in :) .and i like a challenge :)

KI 61 the C version I believe with the two 13.7 mguns and two 20mm, was my favorite.  It was a very well balanced fight with the F6F Hellcat.  Tit for Tat, and lots of fun.

Posted (edited)

As interesting as it would be to see more "exotic" theaters of the war, I hope the developers go for the more practical options. Delving deeper into the Eastern Front, expanding into the Mediterranean and possibly Western Europe seem like far easier and logical options for them to pursue (considering Germany is one of the nations involved in all those theaters and they already have a number of LW aircraft).

The Ki-61-I-Hei had two 12.7mm machine guns in the nose and a pair of imported German MG151/20s in the wings. That's probably the version you're thinking of and yeah it was actually a pretty decent matchup online although I admit to preferring the Ki-61 over most other Japanese fighters... even when there were superior types available.

Agreed. I think one of the bigger theaters and battle areas is likely what we'll see if/when there is a future release. I can see Eastern Front additions being more numerous but a lot of people have been talking about the Med and I really hope the devs are at least considering that as a potential future product. Whatever the case... as much as I love the snow. I'd love to see something else too!

Well  I think it's worth mentioning that Guadalcanal took place at exactly the same time as BoS... (started 2 weeks before BoS, ended a week after BoS)

Guadalcanal....wouldn't that be F4Fs/SBDs (ie. the cactus airforce) vs Zeke/KI84s/Bettys?
