heinkill Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 New project underway. This will be a Battle for Malta mission set (multiple missions, flyable from both sides - Axis and RAF - every aircraft with its own targets and objectives) using the textures and skins created by Vasiliy Kucheraviy for the Africa Mod. The mission set will be released in several chapters as missions are completed, building up to the full package: Chapter 1: The Italian Seige, June-December 1940 Chapter 2: The Luftwaffe Arrives, January-April 1941 Chapter 3: Allied Recovery, April-October 1941 Mission examples: 109s and 110s on combat patrol out of Sicily Gladiators of the Hal Far flight patrol the coast Stukas attack Valetta Harbour Hurricanes of 261 squadron scramble from Ta`Qali airstrip http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww152/whirlybirda2a/reduxlw/Malta/maltawip021_zps81157a9a.jpg Convoy attack http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww152/whirlybirda2a/reduxlw/Malta/maltaju88004_zpsf73c9b19.jpg http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww152/whirlybirda2a/reduxlw/Malta/maltaju88007_zpsf7782aed.jpg http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww152/whirlybirda2a/reduxlw/Malta/maltaju88010_zpsf3977d78.jpg http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww152/whirlybirda2a/reduxlw/Malta/maltaju88012_zpsa79f511e.jpg Reggia Aeronautica pounds Zejtun http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww152/whirlybirda2a/reduxlw/Malta/maltawip018_zps0a77cd9b.jpg http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww152/whirlybirda2a/reduxlw/Malta/maltawip011_zpsba9de241.jpg http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww152/whirlybirda2a/reduxlw/Malta/maltawip023_zps046794d6.jpg http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww152/whirlybirda2a/reduxlw/Malta/maltawip026_zpsbb6ee37e.jpg http://i715.photobucket.com/albums/ww152/whirlybirda2a/reduxlw/Malta/maltawip029_zps3ff81f63.jpg Status so far: - Got the desert landscape mod and skins working - Started populating the island with RAF fields and emplacements - Historical research and mission building ongoing Target is a Christmas 2013 release. ram0506 Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 (edited) Thats incredible! Very nice pictures so far. Really looking forward to it! I will post a link to this page in the german Ubi-forums. I think there are a lot of people very interested in this project! Edited August 18, 2013 by ram0506
ram0506 Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Hello heinkill, are you planning different campaigns for fighters, destroyers and bombers? Are you using the the channel map and changing only the textures? Malta seems to be the Isle of Wight.
SYN_Vander Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Looking good. Nice to see how well the BoB plane set of CloD can be used for a (early) med scenario! If possible I would change the textures of the buildings so they blend in more with the terrain.
heinkill Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 Hello heinkill, are you planning different campaigns for fighters, destroyers and bombers? Are you using the the channel map and changing only the textures? Malta seems to be the Isle of Wight. Will be doing as a mission pack, so that in any one mission including fighters, bombers, zerstorer or stukas etc the player can play any or all, from both sides using the 'CUSTOM' button in the briefing screen. So each mission can potentially be flown from several POV. Yes it is the Channel map, with Isle of Wight standing in for Malta, England mainland for Sicily and Le Havre coast for Libya. Have spent the last few days populating the island, using old photographs and historical references for eg the placement and number of heavy and light AAA, locations of British camps and hospitals, coastal batteries etc. I'll use the 3 existing airfields to represent Hal Far, Luqa and Takali, so their locations aren't accurate, but their proximity to each other is. Team Fusion is working on a real Malta map, and I will save the true campaign for that one. This mission set will be an 'appetiser', but a big one. Have sketched out about 25 missions so far and completed mission 1. It will go quickly-ish now that the basic island template is ready and most of the research done. 2
Skoshi_Tiger Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Looking forward to trying the campaign. I guess it will all be new teritory for me. I've only had one flight down in that area. Most of the COD action is based on the East Coast.
ram0506 Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Thank you for your answers, heinkill! Also looking forward to the campaign!
kestrel79 Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Used to play the Malta campaign in Air Warrior wayyyy back in the day. Lookin good.
E69kakuton Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Fascinante, alucinante, esperando este nuevo escenario, se ve muy bien. Saludos
heinkill Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 (edited) please add a bit green to it.. I can't edit the textures, but the user can adjust the greenery through the trees setting. The shots above are with trees set to V LOW. Here we are with trees set to LOW H Edited August 21, 2013 by heinkill
Freycinet Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Thanks and mange tak for your work with offline content Heinkill!
SOLIDKREATE Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Where is the Afrika MOD? I have been looking for it forever! I hope you guys do this for Battle of Stalingrad. NICE WORK!!!
heinkill Posted August 23, 2013 Author Posted August 23, 2013 Malta mission pack will include all the files you need from the Afrika mod by Vasiliy Kucheraviy, and skins, and a mostly automated self installer. But if you want to get started now by installing manually, here are the mod files. http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3323 My advice is to create a separate install of CoD (copy the steamapps game folder to a separate directory) and install to there. Instructions on how to do that are here. http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3797 Then create a new shortcut to your new launcher.exe file called Malta and add the mod switch as described, and you'll be good to go. (I had to delete the sweetfx files from the download, as I don't run Sweetfx, otherwise it wouldn't run). Once you get the mod installed, the Malta mission pack will be a breeze. If you find this too complicated, just wait, I'll make it simpler in the final download, I hope! H
5./JG54_Eman Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 WoW! Awesome job! Keep going mate. I'm looking forward for this =)
heinkill Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 Just thinking about what is the best way to release this, as very few (any?) people are using the desert textures and skins mod. So far this is the process, and anyone who wants to can get started on it now. For now it requires that you are comfortable moving files around manually though. 1. Make a copy of the Steamapps IL2 Sturmovik directory and all subfolders and files, and copy it to another area of the hard drive (eg a new folder called 'Malta'). This folder is usually in c: programx86/steam/steamapps/common etc. 2. Locate the launcher.exe file within the new copy and make a shortcut to the desktop and rename it eg to 'Malta' or 'MTO (med theatre of operations) 3. Download the desert textures mod and any skins you want: http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3323 and place them in the appropriate files 4: Modify your desktop shortcut (malta or mot) to add the 'switch' as described in the link above 'right click on shortcut and add -mod=desert ' (note, I had to take the Sweetfx files out of the download to get it working on my machine, as I am not a sweetfx user) 5. Run the Malta shortcut to get the desert theatre with current CoD missions etc. Note that this method will use all your current settings and files from the My Documents/1Csoftclub folder, so any changes you make to the options in the Malta mod, will impact your default install too eg tree levels), for better or worse. This is what I did (I am no tech guru btw), and should be enough to get the mod working for most people so that later they just need to install the mission files when I have them ready. This gives you several weeks to get it up and running. For the final package I am thinking of building 2 separate installers, for use after people create a new directory for the mod as in step 1 above: A. an installer that puts the desert system mod files into the new root directory the player created for the 'malta mod' B. an installer that puts the desert skins and the new Malta missions into the 1CSoftclub user directory With my limited install building skills, I can't think of a way to build a single installer that will do it all, so this will end up being a three step process unfortunately. But for this, I will definitely put together a how to video. Anyway, just thinking out loud! Wanted to spell out the process in case anyone else than me wanted to fool around with the desert mod now.
