Pringliano Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 I find them a very nice addition. I play mostly at NORMAL servers, so I am aware they will not mean anything for you Experts ;-), but the way they fade in color with distance is very good, IMO.
BoZZ Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Too big for me. In this mode, I'd just like to see a small blue or red dot and nothing else. They should make them customizable, just like il2 did. The waypoint markers on the map are too big and fat right now as well. Let's hope it's due to work in progress. 2
Leaf Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 I really like them. A subtle, but excellent addition.
216th_Peterla Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 I also like them, but its a matter of likeness.
Praetor Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 It's a step in the right direction. I think they should also reduce the distance at which the icons first appear.
Finkeren Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 I like 'en very much, but the triangle could be half the size, and it would still work well. 1
PreachR Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 The fading in is cool. It's more realistic, because you have to be closer to identify the planes around you. I don't like the big triangles. Too much icon, IMO. I like the old one much better.
SpookyRiddle Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 I definitely like the new system, my only wish is that instead of planes getting spotted as neutral at around 10km they wouldn't show up at all until about maybe 6km and then you would know if they were friend or foe at about 4km.That'd keep people on their feet more and also prepare them a bit more for Expert gameplay, as you'd have you stay more mindful of your surroundings.
Elbows Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I haven't logged in to try the new stuff - one question, do the icons disappear behind clouds? I think that'd be a slick addition...would also allow you to get jumped if you're not paying attention etc.

II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Triangles could be smaller but that is just personal taste. It doesn't really effect game play. I think the icons should not appear until around 5 or 6 k. The color should start fading in MUCH later, say, at 2.5 k. It would still give you plenty of time to make your fight or flight decision. Normal servers should be the stepping stone to the expert servers. Don't make it too easy to spot. If there are server side choices this conversation might be unnecessary. Otherwise, I think it is a very good start and just needs a little tweaking.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I think they are really good, maybe the triangle is a little bit too big but it does not really bother me
PreachR Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I think it would be cool if you couldn't see the icons through your plane, clouds, etc. You should only be able to see the icons where you have a clear field of view. That way you could sneak up behind or below enemy aircraft like you can do in the expert servers. That would be a huge step toward more realism in the Normal servers. I've played other combat flight sims before, like Aces High, where the planes had icons, but you couldn't see them unless you could see the plane. There was also no indicator to let you know, for instance, that someone was behind you either. You had to actually check your tail, roll your plane, etc... to make sure that no one was there. Something like that would be awesome.
Uriah Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 PreachR, that is the holy grail for those of us who do like icons. As you have said, it has been done in other sim games. But I guess it is very hard to code. 1
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 It's perfect for the light servers. Should be a little harder, closer in, for the normal servers.
Sparrer Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 S! Better of those awfull big bars But if don't have nothing, just the distance counter, would be much better, much cleaner
