I just finished setting up my quadrant for BoS and wanted to see if any other users had suggestions on a better use of the axes and switches.

post-26445-0-10293200-1410636282_thumb.jpg

From left to right I have:

RPM

Mixture

Oil Radiator

Water Radiator/Cowl flaps

Tail wheel lock

Landing gear

and for the switches:

Open bomb doors/Switch to bomb sight

Siren

Air Brakes

Boost

Canopy open/shut

Supercharger

I have the stabilizer mapped to the throttle on my Fighter stick.  I am avoiding using the up position on the switches at this point to avoid confusion and mistakes in flight.

Feedback it greatly appreciated.

I have the same quadrant, but not a label maker ;)

Just a suggestion, but keep your top slider/axes for things like radiator control, trim, prop pitch/rpm, and others that need incremental adjustment.  Having tail lock and landing gear on the right slider/axes is not really needed, put those on the front up/down switches.  Each switch can act as a toggle in one direction (in case of supercharger press down for stage 2, press down again for stage 1) or as an up/down switch, so gear up - flip swtich up, gear down - flip switch down.  It's a very versatile quadrant, and I finally got it to work without the CH manager...

Just an opinion, I'm still optimizing my assignments...

Pretty good setup. For mine I like to use the buttons for stuff that relates to each lever. For example some places have auto prop or auto radiator. I use the switch to toggle this on or off. I have in the past used mine for superchargers as well, feathering props. It's a great device glad I got mine.

The red handles is usually for mix and the blue for radiators while black knobs could be for throttle or prop pitch. You could prob just move the caps around.

Good to know, thanks.  I'm not using the quadrant for throttle yet as I have a Pro Throttle also.

That's interesting. Are you managing to get them to work together? What else are you using? I ask because I have pro throttle, rudder pedals and MSFF stick. When I also connected the quadrant I couldn't get things to work at all.

I didn't do anything special to make it work.  I also have the Pro Pedals and the Fighterstick, so I added all 4 devices through CH Manager with the hope that this would prevent them from changing assignments in BoS.  I did not merge them into one device because that arrangement only supports 8 axes.  Does BoS not see both throttles?

Yes, the label maker was a necessary assist for my poor memory. :)

I only assigned gear and tail lock because I don't need it for the throttle since I am using the CH Throttle Pro for that.  In the future I may change that if multi engine throttles become an option.  In the meantime, I was trying to identify if there were any other sim functions that use axes that would make more sense.  I considered assigning flaps, but again I have that on the throttle where it is more readily at hand for use while maneuvering.

I have a (probably unjustified) phobia of CH Manager!

It can be a bit intimidating, but unless you are mapping keystrokes it really is very simple.  That said, I don't think you have to use it.  I am pretty certain BoS should be able to pick up all your devices regardless.

Thanks, jarg. I have tried before and things did start to become a little weird. It seemed to pick up the quadrant in place of the throttle.

Make sure, windows "sees" all your input devices, before you start up BoS. Especially my CH quadrant needs reconnects until seen by Windows. (if it says USB device instead of CH Quadrant, the correct driver is not loaded)

Cheers, Devil. I may go back to it. One thing which puts me off is that I have RoF, DCS, Ilya Muromets, CloD, Il2 1946 and BoS all of which have the controllers set up in as similar a way as possible..the thought of reprogramming all of them is hideous!
