Jaeger55 Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Hi, I Use free track 2.2 with BoS and its kinda sloppy. Looking down is a problem, making a center deadzone causes the view to whip and if the cockpit is open the pilots view is way out over the wing. With Il2 1946, CloD, and RoF, my performance is good and tight. Anyone use free track and have any recommendations on profiles or settings? Is there something besides facetracknoir out there? I cannot get facetracknoir to work properly. Thanks ~S~
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Get the Opentrack - works very well! ofc you need to spend some time to adjust curves etc. link: https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack
Emgy Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Scroll down to where it says "windows binary builds available at: (link)." It's basically facetracknoir except it gets updated much more often, and you can look 90 degrees upwards in Rof&Bos. For that, you need to go to Protocol options and check "Use EZCA".
Emgy Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 BTW- maybe you can ask this guy about his Freetrack profile? Seems to work fine. He might have an account on these forums.
No_85_Gramps Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 Opentrack works fine for me. Are you using an IR clip, or actual facetracking? Not much info around for opentrack but if you want some help I'll be glad to provide it. I never had any luck using face tracking so I went with a 3 point IR set-up. There are some curve profiles floating around here and I have several that you can try. I'm currently using one from Eyek who provided it here on the forums.
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 I used facetrack with success in ROF, but when i started using nvidia 3d vision - the face tracking algorithm can't cope with glasses. I bought from ebay DelanClip and ps3 eye cam (take out ir filter and put magnetic surface form 3,5 inch floppy) and switch to Opentrack (because facetracknoir can't do 90 degrees pitch with point track). Now I'm very happy with the response and smoothness of ir tracking. And the software it is better and better from each release.
Emgy Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 (edited) tomcatqw are you using the Accela filter in opentrack? Could you please share those settings? I'm mostly happy with my settings but I feel like it could be better. I'm using this for Bos and it works thanks to the camera smoothness/inertia/speed options in Bos, but it's a bit jittery in DCS. (Strangely not jittery in Clod.) rot/trans 35/20 order 15/20 deadband 0/0 exp 2.2 Edited September 14, 2014 by Calvamos
Jaeger55 Posted September 15, 2014 Author Posted September 15, 2014 (edited) For the most part the freefrack gets the job done. Looking down in the cockpit to the left or right is a lost cause. I'm sure that it can be fixed but every time I tweek it, I seem to make it worse. I use a 3 point ir cap with the webcam. Edited September 15, 2014 by Jaeger55
No_85_Gramps Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 You really should give opentrack a try. I use a homemade 3 point IR clip and all six DOF work great.
Jaeger55 Posted September 16, 2014 Author Posted September 16, 2014 Scroll down to where it says "windows binary builds available at: (link)." from here do I download all for files from this link, and if so which one do I open first?
No_85_Gramps Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Download this one, it appears to be the latest build, opentrack-win32-20140913. Once downloaded you have to extract the file twice, not sure why but it is set-up that way. extract the .xz file and then extract the .tar file. Go into the install folder and create a desktop shortcut to opentrack.exe and set it to run under admin mode. You need a base .ini file to get started, copy the info below and save it as il2bos.ini, or whatever you like and place it in the settings folder. Jaeger55 Posted September 18, 2014 Author Posted September 18, 2014 OK, I'll monkey with it this weekend, then post how it works. Thanks
No_85_Gramps Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Great! Let us know how it works out.
szuszu Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 .. you should keep your free track at same altitude as your camera [middle led should face camera lens] .. btw after 1.004 patch free track stopped working they (sic!)
Jaeger55 Posted November 12, 2014 Author Posted November 12, 2014 Now that Im forced to use something besides freetrack. I will now give my next option, short of spending another 100 dollars, a try. This open track website is quite possibly the most confusing website I have seen in 10 years. I dont see any links or instructions on what or how to download and install.

Search a post by Xenos on the general discussion called something like "Opentrack file 2,2a2 (allows for 90 degree pitch view)" Youll have the best version for this game there

Here: https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack/releases/tag/opentrack-2.2-end-of-alpha Just unzip and run the exe. In "Game protocol options" (this is the equivalent of the Output options tab in freetrack), check the EZCA checkbox, this will give you 90 degree pitch view. Future updates to opentrack will be found at https://github.com/opentrack/opentrack/releases Edited November 12, 2014 by Calvamos
Jaeger55 Posted November 13, 2014 Author Posted November 13, 2014 Well, call me blind, I dont see any exe. file once it is unzipped.
216th_Xenos Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Here you go: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/12772-opentrack-22a2-file-allows-90degree-pitch-view/ Once downloaded it all ready to go.
Rivet Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 (edited) Easier just to junk the game and write it off to a bad experience. My Freetrack was working perfectly up until the release. Now, not a chance.. typical. Never had any luck with facetrack or any other form of headtracking other than Freetrack. Even my old TIR wasn't as good as my freetrack setup. Think I've only bothered with it a couple of times since release anyway and then only for 10 minutes or so. Well, there may be a premium BOS account up for sale eventually if it's even allowed to do that. Edited November 15, 2014 by Rivet
