Quite a bit of stuff happening in the newest update

I won't run through the changelog as B6 already posted an extensive one, but can I just say that in my (short) experience tonight, there's a lot more to this update than appears from just the changelog:

1. First and most important, I don't know what exactly has happened, but the changes to the Fw 190s ground handling has for some reason worked wonders to its overall handling as well. Yes, there is still the odd negative G behavior and yes, it still feels underpowered at safe power rating, but the handling? The 190 is just smoother than silk now with excellent stability above 300km/h. At higher speeds you can pull a turn inside a Yak-1! It will bleed energy fast, as it should, and ít doesn't take kindly to rough handling below 250 km/h, but the sudden high speed accelerated stalls are gone and the plane now gives plenty of warning prior to a stall. Overall I like the changes, but I'm not sure if it should be able to have quite as high instantaneous turn rate as is now posible. The Fw 190 just went from a very hard plane to master well to a potent dogfighter in the hands of anyone who can manage energy.

2. We have consistent hit sounds in both SP and MP. Great! Nothing much to say about that, but the problems seem more or less fixed with one single update.

3. The new HUD is simpler and does what it needs to do (though I'd still prefer to have temp gauges and control positions there as well) I really like the new position. Much more importantly though: The new type of plane tag is a huge step forward to say the least. They both look vastly better and I just love that they start out as a neutral grey and gradually gain color at closer range where positive ID is posible. Works very well, and has already made "normal" MP a lot more interesting.

4. While fuel fires still seem a bit too prevalent, they just became a lot more interesting.

5. The subtle effects when belly landing and the added sounds just made this particular aspect of gameplay (which happens quite often in MP) so much more immersive. Great job!

6. So far the increased server capacity seems to have caused a few isolated cases of warping, but mostly it seems stable.

Overall an awesome update that serves to polish up the sim quite well.

What are you guys seeing?

I'm not seeing mein beloved Heinkel :(

I don't like the new HUD or the new icons. The fading in from grey is kind of a cool feature, and I assume that's why they added the triangle (more area to see the color). The big triangles everywhere take away from the immersion for me, and the positioning and information on the new HUD is a step backward.

I'm sure every feature will excite one guy and turn another off. I really like the new style icon and Hud. I'd like those as the final versions.

on the HUD missing Throttle % and RPM unless Im missing something.. Dont mind the new layout I decreased the transparency so Im getting used to it.

Many of us asked for more info on the HUD, sounds like we are getting less.

I like the new HUD and ICON style.  I still would like to make it far less but it is better.  More HUD would be good but I am often forced to read the instruments which is a good thing.  When I stick with one plane for a long while I get fairly quick reading those instruments.

I'd like to take partial credit for they gray to color icon fade ins.

i hate the new Help box...why did they take the percentages and dummy lights away and add a compass which is the one thing on the planes i CAN read...don't like it...HATE IT...ok now that that's outta the way. i like the new icons

Using a HUD is overrated and unrealistic anyways. It's funny how many of you complain about the window in the 190 or some FM that isn't true to history but then will use a HUD to read critical engine data or identify aircraft. It's hypocrisy I say.

Can you move the position of the HUD or does it have to be dead center.

look "drift", i'm not in it for realism and never once bitched and said i was... so quit acting like a jerk because i said i didn't like something that YOU don't care about...

I can't stand the new map, totally useless, and hate that I have to activate the HUD to see the map.  The two should be completely different key strokes when/if you want to call them up, unless I'm missing something...

If you have to use a HUD then it should be in keeping with the era and should appear as little gauges (like in RoF), not something out of a space ship...

HUD needs to be in lower left corner IMHO

I'm sharing my opinion of the hud and making a joke. It's not an attack on you or anyone else.  :salute:

Hud, map and icons should all be on different keystrokes in the normal servers and all should be off in the expert servers.

Woah woah, gents... we're all among fellow simmers here. Please keep the hate for the Luftw... nevermind.

Personally, I always thought having a HUD was useless for me. Yet, I understand some people who might need it for various reasons; bad eyesight, no headtracking, dog eating your homework, etc.

But I have to say: realism is fun. Everyone should give it a try.  :P

HUD and map are on two different keybinds. Check your controls.

Unless it has changed (can't fly til Sunday) the map is not available unless the HUD is activated as well.

I agree except that they should keep the wind "Icon", because wind direction and strength is the only thing I can't read  from the gauges in the cockpit:p.

Yes they are, but as soon as I pull out the map the HUD turn on so I have to press H and M after I checked the map. It was so annoying for me that I just printed out the map, much better anyway:)

Wait, I think there's some confusion...if you press "i" twice your informational HUD will toggle off, if you press "h" your UI overlay will toggle off, if you press the minimap button (forgot the default key) it will toggle size then turn off (if your overlay is still activated.).

Pressing the minimap key and "i" are independent of each other.

S!

Took a quick spin on Bf109G-2 and Fw190A-3 offline. The directional stability seems to be better and yes, you can turn well at high speeds with the Fw190A-3, but need to be careful not to bleed your speed. Roll rate is not quite there for the Fw190A-3, it should be the fastest rolling plane in BoS. Period. Graphics seem to run smoothly, even the VSync stutter is gone on my AMD card. Dev team fix or AMD driver fix, hard to say. Need to do some testing.

With all of the cockpit animations being included now I'd be very surprised if true CEM and the full manual startup process were not around the corner - but probably after release.

I want the HUD and icons in braille.  That way I can read them.

Shakespearean prose would be nice.

Thy throttle hastens to 'twards ninety and two...

my issue is i'm not good at reading the gauges  i wish they would do like rof and just some lil sliders to show what percentage they are at and maybe some dummy lights for overheat...the compass is the only thing i don't care if they leave off because i CAN read that...and it's dead center now which to me is irritating... lol

I also prefer the HUD to not be in the center as it blocks the view of gauges and switches.
