The reverse Steam question

I understand that currently it isn't possible to activate the version bought here on Steam. How is it the other way round? If I buy it on Steam, does the game (sorry, sim ) run standalone? Given that I have to register here anyway, would it be possible to ditch Steam completely and use the version downloaded from here? Can I use DLC bought here when I've got the Steam version?

If you go to your profile on the homepage, is there an option to download the launcher? If so, it should work stand-alone perfectly fine.

No I've tried to get on steam  it won't recognize my cd code

yes but first he needs to go to

http://il2sturmovik.com/store/license-keys/ (needs login, same as the in-game login)

Then try to enter the steam key in the "Key Activation" field on that page.

Yeah, I'm still deciding where to buy, so I can't test this. I don't have a download link in my profile.
