kaboki Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Im struggling abit with the JU87, I can't fly this thing without killing the engine. Im following Requems guide and keep to the numbers, but still I mess up....(my oil and water temp is ok, when it happens. I suspect I use the wrong supercharger position). I have a question about the supercharger, what position should it be below 3000m, pushed in, or pulled out?
CreepiJim Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 If it is correctly modelled, you can keep it pushed all the time. The Ju-87 had an automatic supercharger, pulled is low alt, pushed is high alt/automatic.

Ah, and I thought the supercharger killed(had it pushed in all the time) my engine but it seems like Im doing something else wrong... When Im climbing Im having 2450RPM, 1,25ATA. In cruise I have 2100RPM, 1.2ATA. Are these numbers correct?

Avoid increasing abruptly your throttle: it damages the engine. Make sure that your oil and water radiators are fully open. The supercharger shouldn't kill your engine: the only thing it does is that it increases your manifold pressure. As long as you have temperatures, rpm and MP within limitations, you should be fine. Yeah, that's the guide I was following(not requems, alltough I watched he's stuka tutorial too). As I said above my water and oil temp are ok when the engine decides too die on me. So then it must be that Im too abrupt on my throttle(alltough Im using it very carefully). Ah well, I guess I'll just have to keep trying..
VR-DriftaholiC Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 (edited) 2300 RPM seems to be the sweet spot for me. I've been able to run 1.4 ATA for a very long time at this RPM. You need to move the throttle slow enough the revs don't spike. Edited September 12, 2014 by driftaholic
kaboki Posted September 12, 2014 Author Posted September 12, 2014 (edited) Got dammit I hate this plane, tried the suggestions in this thread and my engine is dead before I even reach 1km altitude. Im using the thottle as slow as f....... possible, but still(the weird thing is that my temps are perfect). I have loaded the plane with the 1800kg bomb, does that make any difference with engine management(different settings?)? Edited September 12, 2014 by kaboki
Chuck_Owl Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 LOL now there's your problem. 1800 kg bomb is excessively heavy and requires a very small climb rate. If you try to climb too hard, your engine will just fry even if your rpm and temperatures are green. 1800 kg is huge for a Stuka. To give you an idea, you're giving a bombload that is almost twice the max load for a Pe-2 (twin-engine) for a single engine. 1
JtD Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Why would your engine care about the bomb loadout you carry? If temps are good and you're not over-revving, it should be good.

Yeah, maybe part of it, but I have been trying without the bomb load, but that only gets me an altitude of 2km(1km with bomb) before my engine blows. Im climbing at 5-10m/s vertical speed and my IAS is 230Kph and 2450RPM, 1.25 ATA. Still it blows. Im starting to give up on this plane soon... Dunno, that's why Im asking:p To make sure Im doing everything by the book I have to ask, do I reduce throttle(Manifoil Pressure) before I adjust prop pitch(RPM)(this Is what Im doing now)? Eldur Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 If it is correctly modelled, you can keep it pushed all the time. The Ju-87 had an automatic supercharger, pulled is low alt, pushed is high alt/automatic. The last time I checked this which was some weeks ago, it was not correctly modelled. Back then, it was stage 1 at "Automatik" and stage 2 at "Bodenlader".
Urra Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 RPM must be kept below 2250 rpm, based on the little experience I had using manual prop pitch. Keep pressure at 1-1.1 and try again.
JonRedcorn Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 It says 30 min max at 1.25 atm Safe is 1.15 atm at 2250 rpm.
kaboki Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 It says 30 min max at 1.25 atm Safe is 1.15 atm at 2250 rpm. Yeah I know, but my engine only last for 7min climb using 2450RPM, 1,25 ATA. Im gonna test out only using the safe settings and take it from there. Using the numbers from the guide doesn't work for me..
kaboki Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 Oh yeah, thanks for the safe settings advice grimm:). Now Im climbing without issues, now I can focus on actually learn to dive bomb and navigate a little better:p.
