Horna Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 A bit off topic, but for me, it's not the perfect FM or anything that creates the immersion, it's the feeling You are actually contributing to the war effort. That means a GREAT campaign, atmosphere (news flashes, headlines, events etc.) Sadly there isn't any sims that deliver this, the closest thing that comes to mind is heavily modded Silent Hunter IV.
Krupi Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 For me I am a huge fighter bomber fan so it's the Fw 190 and Hawker Tempest all the way, I can't wait to fly into flak with some of that great RoF physics pushing me off course especially if they get the occulas rift working, imagine being able to not only feel but see the flak explosion just at the corner of your eye... :D
reddog=11blueleader* Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I fly bombers in ROF. Love the bombers. 1
Rjel Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 As was said before without a solid feeling of flight, none of the rest of a sim works for me. I probably have spent more time in IL-2 doing little more than just flying along, sightseeing at low level or doing aerobatics. I love beating up an airfield. Screaming down a runway as low as possible then pulling up til I lose airspeed then wing over and do it again. Simple things for simple minds I guess. Although I'm a big BoB history buff, the 43-44 ETO USAAF fighter campaign is my favorite. As to immersion what I like doing is flying a mission and then try it from the opposing side just as a way to compare. Even tho the Bf-109 isn't my favorite WWII era plane, it's the one I'll likely fly most in BoS. I'm hoping someone will skin a few Romanian 109s. I've never skinned in ROF, not sure I even will try. 1

trumps Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Personally for me it would be to fly in No 3 Sqn RAAF, they flew in the Western desert/Med from 1940-45. they started with gladiators then for a short time hurricanes, they they then flew most of the war in Tommahawks, and Kittyhawks, before finally swapping to mustang III's and IV's in november 44. the Squadron flew mainly fighter, and fighterbomber roles. they fought against the Reggia Aeronautica, Luftwaffe, and Vichy French, in a constantly moving war, with them often returning to a different base than they started from due to it being over run by the enemy, at one stage the occupied 7 different bases in 6 days. No 3 Sqn RAAF was along with No112 Sqn RAF the highest scoring allied squadron in the western desert and produced a whole swag of aces. Below is a Squadron history with a whole pile of fantastic photos of their war, a fantastic read! http://www.3squadron.org.au/indexpages/history3a.htm
Jaws2002 Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 Even tho the Bf-109 isn't my favorite WWII era plane, it's the one I'll likely fly most in BoS. I'm hoping someone will skin a few Romanian 109s. I've never skinned in ROF, not sure I even will try. skinning in ROF is really easy because they release the official layered template for every plane. The approving process is ten times more annoying. I agree with you. Romanian Bf-109 skins are really cool. When Clod was released, I made myself a quick Romanian skin for the Emil, before I even had all main controls mapped. I posted this screenshot a day and half avter I got the game: I can't wait to do Iar-80/81 skins though. While playing flight sims I had a lot of fun doing a bunch of things. FW-190 low level jabo on eastern front with a bunch of friends on comms. TB-3 wars in Coops, Tank hunting with big guns, mindless dogfights in slow a$$ planes. In BOS i'm looking forward to go bomb the tractor factory in a IAR-81, then fight my way back home. 1
JG27_Chivas Posted August 24, 2013 Posted August 24, 2013 A Jabo run in a Ju88/109/190 flying below treetop level, down valleys, avoiding detection, deep into enemy territory, then nursing my flak stricken aircraft home, or if undamaged I'll bag a Spit or two on the RTB. If thinks go badly, I been known to screamed like a little girl for backup.
hiro Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 In IL-2 I like jabo. The best was bomb skipping / skip bombing and taking down ships. I even made missions with the pfeil or corsair and loading up max bomb load and putting a battle ship or aircraft carrier and spiral diving , leveling out for a split second, and skipping a bomb home. I hope they put that in BoS. I liked loading up a 109 and cruising to take down targets. I did like Doras too. But for online dogfighting, I seemed to gravitate to the cobra or p-38 . . . Usually BnZ and the cobra's cannon really did a number on planes. Can't wait for the experience to start again.
von_Tom Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Jabo all the way. Nothing beats low level flying in a FW190 with a bomb on, knowing that you have to avoid enemies to the target then fight your way out. Hood

Jaws2002 Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 This two look different: I kinds like the emils a little better.
I./JG53_BlackJaguar Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 (edited) I'm really looking forward flying the Gustav (Bf 109 G-2) for I./JG53 gruppe over the steppe :D ROF plane models are very impressive so I know 777 studios will do a great job of my beloved Gustav, S! 61ShAP_Colski Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I also love ground attack missions, no matter which side, that's why I'm so much looking forward flying the IL-2 (been active in (v) 61. ShAP back in 2002 or so ) Hi Zimmi, what we're you called back in the day? I was in 61 ShAP from beta until about 2006 :-)
1./KG4_Blackwolf Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I'll take bombers all day, high in the nosebleed section please. I don't limit myself to just one type of aircraft although I do know my limits. I'm better in a bomber or jabo than a fighter. So immersion for me is flying in something I can do well in and working with my squadmates to get the job done and land..sometimes So in BOS if it carries bombs I guess I'll fly it. Red or Blue.
=69.GIAP=C0NAN Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Oddly, I gravitated into flying for the VVS despite training for years to go to war with their descendants. There is something about the undisciplined discipline of the VVS aviators and their ability to find something to live and fight for in a horrible situation. My squad is anything but "hard core" and yet we really have enjoyed immersing ourselves into the VVS role. We fly anything we need to just for the pleasure of serving Rodina aaannd to have a good time. Life in the VVS is a buffet of borscht and engine degreaser where the fighter pilots have their hair slicked back (wish I had some) , the bomber pilots have thick glasses from staring at ballistics tables and nobody wants to be known as a Sturmovik pilot but everybody loves to fly one! I most enjoy the later Soviet fighters like the Yak-3P and LA-7 but also love to cavort around in my beloved Rata or Chaika. I had all of my mates learn to fly and respect the 109 and 190 as a way to better understand where their own strengths and weaknesses lie and how to exploit every available advantage in a fight. I love flying the Emil very much and the Dora is a personal favorite. 1
=38=Tatarenko Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 My favourite is still the IL-2 follow by the I-16. 1

Volkoff Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) I never would have thought it, but I am really enjoying the LaGG-3 Series 29. Surprisingly to me, I like the LaGG-3 more than I like the BF-109 F-4. I never thought this would be the case. Before trying the LaGG-3, I would have thought that I would be really unhappy with the performance differences between the BF-109 and the LaGG-3, that I would regret not being a BF-109 specialist and I would try to convince the 69 GIAP to become JG 69, but I am now thinking that the high challenge is going to be very satisfying and addicting. Before trying the LaGG-3, I would have only been looking forward to a VVS plane like the P-39, La-5FN, or the Yak-3. Now, I am still looking forward to one day sim-flying all of those planes, very much so, but now I am also interested in planes like the Polikarpov I-16. In fact, the plane that I am now most looking forward to learning, in a future add on, is the Mig-3!!! Who know that would be the case? I certainly did not, at least a few months ago. Fifi Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 ^^^^ Always interesting to fly more challenging planes
Bladderburst Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Interception, meaning 109s 190s and 262s. During BOB, Spit and Hurries. Ground attack, meaning IL2, Stukas and 190s.... A10s and KA50 (especially KA50) elsewhere. It's really the feel of the aircraft. I don't like when and airplane has no character. I especially enjoy the german planes, they require a lot of discipline to master.
Volkoff Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 ^^^^ Always interesting to fly more challenging planes Yes Sir! This is one reason that I adore the LaGG-3. She is going to be a big challenge for me in BOS multiplayer. One reason that I joined a virtual squad was so I could learn how to use challenging planes, like the LaGG-3, effectively, as part of a cohesive team. MJ
Original_Uwe Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Sitting in the dispersal tent at RAF kenley, or standing by in our Hurricanes, waiting for RDF to call us up to intercept the hun. Getting the call and doing a mass take off with 615sqn, watchjng the dust come up as our hurris lift off in unison, and thundering upward. Diving on the stukas and gunning down the 109 drivers stupid enough to tangle with our Hurricanes on the deck. That's got to be the best. Getting jumped by 3 109's who think they are going to get an easy kill from my lone hurricane, and sending them to the bottom of the channel. Hurricane+CloD+ACG=awesome!
