A Tip for New Guys: Get on Teamspeak!

Even with full servers, we rarely have more than a 10 of players on comms. Did anybody else notice that too or am I the only one?

If you're a new guy to BoS, my first piece of advice regarding multiplayer is not to read manuals or watch videos about air combat... it's much more simple than that. If you are to survive the treacherous skies of Stalingrad, you're gonna need a thing that many pilots neglect: information. "Knowledge is power", they say. This has never been more true with BoS.

Lots of players do not even read the chat. Why? Because it's often distracting (and breaks immersion). Personally, I very rarely check the in-game chat. I rather get on teamspeak and talk to people instead. It leaves my hands on the controls and it is a much more time-efficient way of communicating and receiving information.

A lot of players seem to underestimate the value of communicating with their teammates on teamspeak. And even if you don't want to talk, listening will make your situational awareness improve tenfold. If you're not sure about where to go or what to do, your teammates will certainly be able to tell you on a moment's notice. Don't be shy: get on comms! We don't bite.

Not to mention you may run into people you have lost touch with over the years. I was on BOS TS on night with my squadmate and ran into a guy I flew with years ago in warbirds 2.77. No one else was on but us so we got to do some catching up.

Totally agree. Don't be shy.

It's also a lot more fun to fly "together", or even better in a group.

ANC = Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. It is a pilot saying to remind them about their priorities in the air. We are not doing enough of the communicating bit.  ;)

Tried it, but once I started my engines, I couldn't hear any TS.

You can still lower your in-game volume ...

I won't be able to hear bullet strikes then, possibly even other subtle sounds. I like the idea of TS, although I find it odd speaking to a computer, but I'm not sure it is worth losing some of the BoS soundscape.

If you lower your sound from the desktop sound volume manager rather than the in-game volume slider, you don't really lose sound quality. I know I don't.

This! You fly with ingame sound on 100%, and level your gamesound in the desktop sound to 20%, then you hear both ingame and TS sound just perfect, without any sounds missing.

so i suppose you don't use a telephone? Or isn't it odd in your world to speak to a tiny colored haft?

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion. For some games, I don't feel the need to use teamspeak. But for flight sims, I find typing and flying difficult and not very effective when you call for a hard break. If you say it, it takes 1 second. If you type it, it's usually already too late when the message reaches your wingman.

Like I said, to each his own.

We fly in ROF and sometime have lone wolves tag along with us but because they are not on TS they have no clue what we are doing. I try to type it out as best I can but as Chuck said, its too late.

One guy I invited to the squad after he flew with us on many missions said no because he didn't want to be on TS. So to each is his own. I could of had a good pilot in the group but he didn't like the thought of talking on line...go figure.

Hi all,

I finally got TS set up the other day for BoS. Admittedly I'm more of a listener than talker but I found in CLoD it helped a lot with finding the fight. That being said I was surprised when I managed to get TS to work that there were very few English speakers using it.

Why?

Quite a few people have families TS can be a problem if you are disturbing the wife etc but if you can use it then do it makes for a much better experience

It depends at what time you get on and for which server. Syndicate is mostly Europe while Eagle's Nest is North America timezone. I usually get in at 1700 EST and it's not uncommon for me to find 7-8 guys on the vvs teamspeak. Some of us are regulars (crash, celestiale, drift, hooves, abortedman, hollywood, Cujo, JimTM, oneeyeddog, etc) but numbers are growing slowly but surely. On the luftwaffe side, though, it's often less populated proportionally to the number of jerry players, but it's always been like that. The side with the better planes somehow thinks that comms are not that important, unlike the vvs side. That kind of tells you something just by looking at which side usually gets the obectives done and which one doesn't. But that might change as more organized luftwaffe squadrons join the fray.

I used to have that problem, until someone walked me through it. I could not hear anyone over the engines. What you do is to install a team speak plug in that lowers sim volume when someone talks. I use Volume control by Goreki, but I am sure others use others. These plugins can be found on the teamspeak website here. http://addons.teamspeak.com/

Hit me up here, on pms or on teamspeak if you have any questions. Someone helped me with that problem, and I am here are to spread the word.

I know nothing about TeamSpeak and very little about multiplayer - I am curious, is it possible to have TeamSpeak go through headphones and BOS go through speakers?

I think there is a plugin to make us all sound like we're talking over a real 2 way radio for those who want full immersion :P

I've heard of people doing this, you can select playback device in TS3, so I guess it should work if you have two separate audio devices for the phones and speakers.

If they show up in this window, they should be selectable by TS3.

Thanks for the info, sounds like it " should " work. If I were to ever do multiplayer with TeamSpeak, that is probably what I would want to try.

I would've tested it if had two separate audio devices. If you do have that, well, TS3 is free and lightweight and easy to try out.

CrossTalk with the RadioFX setting, yeah. It's pretty fun.

If we could mod the game to tell the plugin how far we are apart on the map, you'd even have proper distortion when talking with folks that are far away. Like ShackTac does it for ArmA 2 and 3.
