I remember the second video.

Thanks  :good:

There have been only a couple flight sims that truly felt "perfect" at the time when I first played them. European Air War was one, IL2 Forgotten Battles was the other.

I remember first flying over Leningrad city on that huge and detailed map, exploring the seemingly endless posibilities of the career mode (which I still consider the best career mode in any combat flight sim including PWCG for RoF) and listening to radio chatter in eight different languages.

Indeed I do. "Come with me" still is a classic.

how much does forgotten battles cost now? :)

Forgotten battles that was a cool add on, Finland map, Hungary map and the new career mode.

I still remember the beta of IL-2, still got the CD too. It was 1 patch before release version that was perfect in terms of flying. It required skill and planes had their quirks. You needed to fly, not just yank the stick and slam the throttle. For example the Bf109G-2 was not that "superior" over other 109's. G-6 was only a bit worse than G-2, but still performed well. G-6/AS was worse than G-6 at low alt without MW50 enabled, but zoomed by the G-6 with it on etc. Bf109F-4 was nimble albeit not as fast as G-2. A real dogfighter. And the climb rates, speeds and all were very much in line with documents. Same applied to VVS planes, they were good if flown and managed right. But then came the last patch and ruined it all. I wonder why they had to change it. That beta patch was widely regarded as the best of them all before release. The rest is history, endless debates of FM and all that. I wish BoS does not fall into that pit.

Only a few more updates left. :D

Yes! "Come With Me" still looks fantastic. Ground-breaking stuff and it has worn really well.

There's two IL2 videos I've been searching for. One is Heinkel and had the music of Hans Zimmer's Gladiator. The other movie I can't remember the title at all, but the exciting ending had P40s and 109s dodging smoke stacks in Smolensk. Maybe Mystic Puma made that one but I'm not sure.

A third one had was an online battle where various aircraft came seaward over the hills on the Kuban map toward the enemy 109s and 190s. They are close to the ground and suddenly before they reach the sea the ground falls away - as well as my stomach. This one had a very unique editing style because when opposing planes were scissoring to avoid each others' shot the view would change from cockpit to cockpit. This may have been one of Darts.

There's a lot of very good editing and shot composition in Come With Me. He employs very ingenious uses of Wonder Woman View, reverse, and time compression. Good stuff!

When I was working part time at my local Best Buy from 03-05 I had a series of IL2 videos including "Come With Me" that I put on a thumb drive and had looped on a PC. I sold literally dozens of joysticks, headsets, PCs, GPUs .. and of course copies of IL2 that way. In fact we could never keep enough in the store.. I think I probably snatched a lot of business away from CFS3/MSFS during that time as well.. Of course numbers wise it is all relative and probably was a drop in the bucket on both ends.

Come with Me: best flight sim video I have ever seen. Still prefer Led Zepplin's original song though.

In a rather different vein I also liked the IL-2 1946 A Tunnel of Light, but the owner has made them private on You-Tube now. (I have them in flv format, but to big to upload, unless anyone knows a work-around).
