KoN_ Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Hi guys really liking the game so far , but i struggle to see tracer and smoke when firing , however i am color blind ..lol is there a mod or chance that tracer will look more like the real thing with today DX11 . that zig zag in flight leaving a good vacuum behind it .. see you in the skies
Finkeren Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 (edited) IRL tracers don't "zig zag", they fly perfectly straight (well, in a roughly parabolic arc) and appear only as a small, bright bauble leaving a trail of smoke. The reson they sometimes appear as elongated "ray gun blasts" or seem to be "zig zagging" in gun cam videos is because of the exposure time of each frame and the shaking of the camera. As for how to enhance visibility for the color blind? I really don't know. Perhaps mess around with SweetFX or increase contrast on your screen? You should write a PM to Feathered_IV and ask what he does. He's r/g color blind. Edited September 4, 2014 by Finkeren 7
Potenz Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Yup +1 to Finkeren on the tracers, zig zag, is just a cam effect and in game it's suppose to be seen with your bare eyes and no through a camera lens. and for the colorblind issue, i have no idea it is someting in config or it is implemented yet.
KoN_ Posted September 4, 2014 Author Posted September 4, 2014 Arr yes the zig zag is gun cam , i was thinking its looks rather cool and would look good in the game , 1
Finkeren Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Accuracy takes priority over coolness when it comes to sims. 2
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Unless.............we eventually get a gun cam view for playback!!!! Zig zags, grainy film, exposure streaks. Yes, please. 1
Finkeren Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Only if the gun cam comes with a realistic DM 2
71st_AH_Hooves Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 are you talking about the twirl effect of the round as it flies through the air? Isn't that from the round spiraling as it leaves the barrel?
III/JG52_Llucmk Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I think a shake effect on camera would be enough to do the trick.
FuriousMeow Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 (edited) No thanks, camera shake is an effect that is not present in real life except if you are viewing your world through a camera which we aren't - we have our eyeballs and they have anti-shake technology built into them as they aren't rigidly mounted but rather sit in an advanced fleshy, squishy anti-shake/vibrate setting. Imagine if we had been hunting wooly mammoths and every step was a constant battle just to maintain focus without things becoming shakey or blurry or out of focus. We should not be trying to achieve what gun cams captured, that simply is not what it looked like. Hooves - yep, the spiral effect on (mostly) larger rounds is due to the tracer's phsophorous burning off through an exit port in the rear of the round off to one side and due to the rifled nature of these rounds which cause them to spin to achieve the best flight. feca1229 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Cinema mod zig-zag, No cinema mod no zig -zag?
Finkeren Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Cinema mod zig-zag, No cinema mod no zig -zag? Nah, honestly that'd be a slippery slope and completely unnecessary. We don't need a "Hollywood mode" for BoS Graphics. We just need something that looks as accurate as posible given the ressources available for development and the constraints of PC-power. 1
BigPickle Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I really want motion blur and cinematic view to be seperated again. 1

Yeah, I don't want it in the cockpit but adding a guncam would be pretty cool if it was done right.

I mean Guncam view...
steppenwolf Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Nice find Llucmk. Gun Camera would be awesome. Movie making should be included in a game too, it's just one more hook. I think Red Baron by Dynamix had it. GTA V for PC I think is going to have it. POV shake is a must! Personally, I think if we had an Oculus Rift type box strapped to our faces with the front panel removed so we could see as usual, effectively 'boxing' in our peripheral vision much like the borders of a computer monitor, we'd be able to notice how much our own heads really shake. You can notice 'shake' if you try to focus on the features of your own face like your brow or your nose. Or put on your glasses while you watch TV, you can see subtle movement made by your own breathing if you pay attention to the frames of your glasses. We just tune it out, but it's there when you look for it. And besides, wouldn't our vision make up for any shake in a game, like it does naturally? Elite is doing some cool stuff with POV shake. There's subtle swaying while just sitting and also more dramatic vibration when accelerating or decelerating the piloted craft. The effect could also be used to suggest concussion from explosions or slams from rough landings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oua8BkklhGk
senseispcc Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) This are the flak tracers in BOS: hebergeur image And from other angels the tracers become points/dots of light, great work! Edited September 7, 2014 by senseispcc
ShamrockOneFive Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Interestingly... some footage out of Syria recently posted to The Aviationist blog shows a tracer shell pass by a MiG-21 on a ground attack sortie and you can see how clearly straight and bright it is. (Note: I think the image is interesting - obviously the backdrop behind what is going on is horrific and something else but lets stick to the technical on this one). http://theaviationist.com/2014/09/07/mig-21-almost-hit-by-shell/
