peker Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Is the amount of gunners ammunition modeled as it was in reality ? Because it seems to me very little amount of ammunition Were there no other cartridges around the gunner ?
FuriousMeow Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) These planes modelled here had drum/cartridge fed weapons for the most part. 60 - 90 rounds per drum/cartridge, or there about. Someone will have the exact numbers. Multiply that times 3 to 5 cartridges - so a few seconds of ammunition. They couldn't just hose down the entire sky for minutes, just controlled bursts. LLv34_Flanker Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) S! AFAIK in Pe-2 and IL-2 the gunner had around 120-150rds of ammo in one box. Germans had several clips 3-4 containing 50-250 rounds depending type of clip/ammo box. Edited September 3, 2014 by LLv34_Flanker
Matt Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Magazine load and number of magazines (if applicable) seems to be correct. Don't forget that the rifle caliber machine guns have a very high rate of fire (1800 RPM, except for the MG15 in the He 111) and the medium caliber rounds of the Pe-2s guns are pretty heavy, so the plane can't carry a huge number of rounds.

The MG15 machine gun (which is in the He 111) had 75-round drums, which at its rate of fire of 1,000 rpm meant the gunner had 4.5 seconds of firing time. So yeah, it's not a lot.
