Apoll Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Hi. Took the plunge and got early access. I am a through and through Heinkel man, and I have to say I am very impressed so far. Really flies well and looks beuatiful; love the turbulance under a certain hieght closer to the ground. I would like to make a suggestion, if it has not already been made. The beautiful snowy landscape really places a premium on good navigation, on the highest settings. I wonder if some map tools could be included, like CLoD, to work out magnetic bearings and courses, and to be able to plot them on the map. This would enable the pilot to plan a mission via mag bearings, and then fly them...which IMHO, would really help the navigation over the snowy landscape. That would make a huge difference...if it has not already been suggested, and if the developers are already planning to do this. Thank you. Great sim! Keep up the good work... Apoll 4
Sparrer Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) S! That's the kind of innovation i was expecting for(actually even clod already have it...)I think the map systems im BoS got a throwbackThe grid was a nice and a must, but the minimap is very hard to see due transparency and non zoom ability. You need to hit the Big Map "O" every time but its block your vision completely and you can't flyPlus, to check the HDG you need to fly with the useless minimap m open. (unless you able to see the aircraft compass itself without turning your head all the time, while pilots just turn they eyes) And the lack of map accuracy is the worse Plus, im having very big stuttering when i open them, while the games runs smoothI think the old il2 map+BoS big map with route tracing ability will be a dream. And the route could be 4 simple functions like traces, free drawing (to mark targets), writing and clear all. The things you traces on big map is shown in windowed map. Would be awesome Edited September 3, 2014 by Sparrer
354thFG_Leifr Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Agreed. The minimap isn't particularly useful for anyone really, it can't be moved and it can't be resized. It's quicker just to open up the full screen and sacrifice a few seconds of precious awareness in order to fix one's bearings. We definitely need some form of map marking and navigational aid for Stalingrad, especially when the missions start to encompass the more westerly airfields and the flight times (for bombers specifically!) grow exponentially longer. Whilst I am not too fussed about a shared view of map-marking between crew in one aircraft, I would very much like to see the possibility of drawing at least two lines on the map, a compass and a protractor to fix angles (between the two lines). Currently, it's all a bit of a step back and then some. In fact, I think the map and navigation systems are some of the weakest elements of Stalingrad right now. It's compounded heavily in a winter terrain that is largely monotonous.
Sokol1 Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Plus, to check the HDG you need to fly with the useless minimap m open. (unless you able to see the aircraft compass itself without turning your head all the time, while pilots just turn they eyes) Press keypad Del , and have a momentary glimpse at compass like a RL pilot do with eyes. Digital HDG is... '46/WT. Sokol1
PA-Sniv Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) Yes! a simple tool like NavMap integrated in BoS would be perfect! Here's an example with Lapino map: Edited September 3, 2014 by PA-Sniv 2
Felix58 Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Agree with general comments that Nav tools need to be added. I reckon that the current situation is only a placeholder until this task gets on the devs timeline. I'm sure they appreciate how important nav tools are on a map this large.
Apoll Posted September 4, 2014 Author Posted September 4, 2014 Well Aus3620, hope you're right. In the meantime, I can print out a map and do real nav planning on it using a protractor, sharp pencil and ruler. I will use 10 degrees mag variation as a general rule.. and see if it works in game. BTW, ain't spring in Canberra just lovely; the blossoms are all out.... Apoll
EAF19_Charlie Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 (edited) I'm with Sparrer on this. The map transarency makes navigating almost impossible. You cannot focus on the map quickly because of the backround poking through the map. Would it be possible to make the map "solid" so to speak when set at 100% (non transparent ?). Even when maxed out to 100% I still cannot depict the rivers on the map. Edited September 12, 2014 by EAF19_Charlie
